Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lysander Birdwhistle (ranked 1113 p4p, 1030 weight class) and Ken Shamrock (ranked 148 p4p, 143 weight class). Birdwhistle comes to the cage accompanied by Black Vultures - Halestorm. The crowd seem to be enjoying Shamrock's choice of entrance music: Dangerous Entrance Theme. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Lysander Birdwhistle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ken Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Birdwhistle stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Birdwhistle wants it to stay on the feet.
Birdwhistle swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Birdwhistle misses with a straight right.
No joy there for Birdwhistle, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Birdwhistle lands a left and a right that send Shamrock crashing to the mat, dazed. Birdwhistle thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Ken Shamrock has been cut.
Birdwhistle with a jab.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Birdwhistle throws a nice outside leg kick.

Birdwhistle closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Shamrock did well to prevent Birdwhistle getting side control.

Shamrock is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Birdwhistle pulls his head out easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Shamrock is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Birdwhistle pulls his head out easily.

Birdwhistle is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shamrock doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Birdwhistle.

Birdwhistle seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shamrock changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Birdwhistle throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Donk. Birdwhistle catches Shamrock right on the button with a cross.

Shamrock sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Birdwhistle wants to take a breather but Shamrock is having none of it.

Birdwhistle is pressing down on Shamrock's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shamrock is holding on for now.

Lysander Birdwhistle overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Birdwhistle is working for a submission of some sort.
Shamrock gets full guard.
Birdwhistle wants to control from the top but Shamrock keeps moving.
Shamrock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Birdwhistle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shamrock swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Shamrock isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Birdwhistle stacks Shamrock on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Birdwhistle!

Well Birdwhistle has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
