PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Travis Colt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Moca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Travis Colt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Frank Moca!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colt throws a sloppy head kick and Moca moves out of range easily.
Moca looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Colt scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Moca doesn't seem bothered though.
Colt pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Colt fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Moca sprawls well initially but Colt persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Moca is trying to get back to full guard.
Colt perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Ground and pound from Colt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Colt is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Colt takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Colt decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Colt shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Moca pinned against the cage. Moca gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Colt moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


It looks like Frank Moca has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big head kick from Colt and Moca is sent sprawling to the canvas!


Moca is rocked!
Colt has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Colt controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Colt gets to his feet - Moca follows without any prompting.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Moca slips a jab and a cross from Colt.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Colt. Moca shrugs it off though.
Colt lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Moca is still on wobbly legs! Can Colt finish him?

Colt closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Colt lands a nice short elbow.

Colt is working for a submission of some sort.
Ground and pound from Colt.
Moca seems to have recovered his senses.
Colt is thwarting Moca's attempts to control the position.
Moca is trying to stand back up but Colt is controlling him
Colt slows the pace down in half guard.
Moca is trying to stand back up but Colt is controlling him
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Colt content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Colt seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Moca for as long as he can get away with.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Moca is not content to let Colt control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Colt fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Moca tries to clinch up but Colt circles away and keeps his distance.
Colt throws a head kick that misses.
Colt misses with a double jab.
Colt fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Colt looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Moca!
Colt trying to control but Moca is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Moca is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Colt controlling the position easily from mount.

Colt is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Moca is surviving well by controlling Colt's body position as best he can.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Travis Colt just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Colt tries to close the distance and clinch but Moca swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Colt has Moca up against the cage in a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Colt takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Come on Colt - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Colt's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Colt cracks Moca with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Colt lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Colt has taken the fight to the clinch.

Colt pulls guard successfully.
Colt has a closed guard, preventing Moca from standing up.
Colt lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Moca!

Colt gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Colt throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Colt shoots in but Moca avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Travis Colt. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Colt moves out of range of the leg kick from Moca.
Colt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Moca swivels and escapes.

and Colt counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Moca is looking to stand back up but Colt counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Moca.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Colt shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Moca as he jumps to the side.

Colt looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Colt controlling the pace.
Colt has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Moca is trying to stand.
Moca has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Colt is working away from the top position though.
Travis Colt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Colt is trying to control the action in half guard but Moca is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Colt decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Colt gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Moca misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Colt.
Colt jumps guard but Moca stands there with Colt around his waist. Colt gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Colt successfully pulls guard.
Colt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Moca is one step ahead there.
Moca tries to stand but Colt is controlling from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Moca postures up.
Colt is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Moca can do to turn this around?
Moca tries to stand but Colt is controlling from the bottom.
Colt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Colt slips a nice elbow through Moca's hands, connecting with Moca's forehead.

Colt looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Colt seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Moca wants to control but Colt is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Moca tries to get to full guard but Colt has control of the leg.

Colt decides to stand up.

Colt feints and as Moca raises his hands in defense, Colt changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Colt looking to sit in guard and control but Moca gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Colt looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Moca puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Colt is refusing to be controlled, as Moca sits in half guard.
Colt regains full guard. Nicely done.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Colt is on top in guard.
Colt trying to control the position from guard on top but Moca is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Colt prevents Moca from getting back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Travis Colt showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Colt has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
