Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tim Bird (ranked 369 p4p, 639 weight class) and Paulo Mendes (ranked 48 p4p, 84 weight class). Bird comes to the cage accompanied by Dragula - Rob Zombie. The crowd seem to be enjoying Mendes's choice of entrance music: Future - Last Breath. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Tim Bird! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paulo Mendes! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, David Schapiro and Dean Styles.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendes scores with a nice head shot. Bird throws a nice outside leg kick. Bird paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
 It looks like Paulo Mendes has been cut. Mendes has a takedown stuffed. Bird pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bird has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Mendes tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bird defends well and Mendes ends up having to push Bird into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Bird misses with an uppercut
and Mendes counters with a three punch combo that has Bird backing up. Bird nods at Mendes to acknowledge the strikes. Mendes ducks right into an uppercut from Bird. Bird takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bird avoids the body shot from Mendes.
Mendes pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Bird back to the cage. Mendes follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. A combination from Mendes does no damage. Bird throws a predictable looking body shot
and Mendes connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Bird with a jab. Bird ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mendes moves away. A looping hook to the body misses from Bird. Mendes does a little dance to reset his feet. Mendes looks like he wants to counter punch here. Bird steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Mendes. Bird throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mendes sees it coming and avoids it easily.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Bird connects with a single shot there. Bird swings for the body but Mendes moves out of range.
Mendes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bird circles away quickly and effectively. Bird ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Mendes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bird defends it nicely. Tim Bird has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Mendes. Mendes shoots in looking for a takedown but Bird manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mendes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Bird jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Bird throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Bird throws a right hand that Mendes ducks under and follows up with a left that Mendes also avoids with ease. Bird swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Bird scores with a sloppy right hand. Mendes should have avoided that one. Mendes ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bird moves away. Bird seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Bird throws a big shot that misses. A nice side step and Mendes releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Bird fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
 That has opened up Paulo Mendes's cut even more. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Nice defenses there by Bird.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters circle momentarily. Bird darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Mendes digs a good hook to Bird's body.
Bird looks to land a right hand but Mendes moved out of range. Bird is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Bird scores with the left hand. Mendes knows he should have avoided that one. Mendes with a nice cross. A shot to the liver by Bird. Beautiful body shot. Mendes takes a kick to the side of the head. Mendes throws a series of punches but Bird moves out of range. Mendes fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mendes ducks under a wild hook from Bird. Mendes lands a really nice looking cross but Bird seems unphased.
Bird throws the left hand but Mendes avoids the punch easily. Bird fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
 The cut above Paulo Mendes's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Bird keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Mendes. Bird looks to land a combination but Mendes avoids it well. Mendes throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Bird cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Bird slips under a jab from Mendes. Bird appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Mendes connects with a nice looking jab.
A big right from Bird misses. Mendes avoids the body shot from Bird.
Bird throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Mendes shoots in and bounces Bird off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Bird controls Mendes momentarily but Mendes frees himself. Bird looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Bird controls Mendes momentarily but Mendes frees himself. Bird is looking to stand up but Mendes isn't so interested in that idea.

 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mendes closes the distance and lands a one-two. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mendes throws a body punch but Bird moves out of range. Mendes shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bird sprawls well. Bird wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mendes gets slowly back to his feet. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Tim Bird will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Paulo Mendes's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Mendes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bird is looking to stand up but Mendes isn't so interested in that idea. Mendes stopping the sweep attempt from Bird. Bird controls Mendes momentarily but Mendes frees himself. Bird looking for a sweep. Not yet Bird, not yet. Mendes postures up.
Mendes wants to control from the top but Bird keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Mendes landing with the ground and pound. Bird is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Mendes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Bird looking for a sweep. Not yet Bird, not yet. Mendes slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Bird wants to stand but Mendes is controlling the position.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Bird needs to keep his hands up - Mendes had a free shot at his head there. Nice shot lands for Bird.

Mendes misses with a right hand and Bird counters with a nice uppercut. This has been an exciting period of action! Mendes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bird as he avoids it easily. Tim Bird has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Mendes. Mendes takes one on the button.  That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bird keeps working. Mendes working away. Bird is not content to let Mendes control the position. Bird gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Mendes trying to control from half guard but Bird is working away.
Mendes wants to work for an arm triangle but Bird is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bird wants to get back to full guard. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Tim Bird will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Paulo Mendes's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Mendes connects with a crisp jab. Mendes connects with the punch. Bird scores with a punch to the head. Mendes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Bird moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mendes manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bird on his heels. He'll look to pass Bird's guard now, I'm sure. Paulo Mendes has got the better of the ground game so far.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. Bird keeping moving, preventing Mendes from controlling successfully. Bird can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mendes controls the pace. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Tim Bird is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
 The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. The crowd cheers as Bird lands an impressive looking overhand right. Mendes doesn't seem phased though. Mendes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bird was well out of range. Poor timing from Mendes. Mendes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Bird manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Nice uppercut there from Bird. Bird has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bird there as he acknowledges the shot. Bird misses with a straight right. Mendes swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Paulo Mendes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Mendes throws a right hand that Bird ducks under and follows up with a left that Bird also avoids with ease.
And that's the end of the fight! Tim Bird showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bird, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
