Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lochlain OBrien (ranked 2882 p4p, 2480 weight class) and Ryota Fukado (ranked 0 p4p, 241 weight class). OBrien's entrance music is Come out and fight!. A fine choice. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lochlain OBrien!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryota Fukado!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fukado gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
OBrien controls from within his opponent's guard.
OBrien postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
OBrien showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
OBrien postures up in Fukado's guard and throws a big left but Fukado blocks it.
OBrien connects with a couple of short punches.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fukado wants to sweep but no luck.
OBrien lands a couple of digs.
OBrien stands up over Fukado, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

OBrien's corner is telling him to maintain position.

OBrien slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
OBrien is chipping away with strikes.
Fukado is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
OBrien lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Fukado down.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fukado is looking to reverse the position.

OBrien is looking to take a break and control but Fukado is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

OBrien has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

OBrien is staying tight to Fukado's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Fukado wants to control but OBrien postures up.
Fukado takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
We've been hearing good reports from OBrien's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fukado is working to avoid the ground and pound but OBrien connects with a decent elbow.
OBrien landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Fukado is letting OBrien control him for a moment.
Fukado on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
OBrien cracks Fukado with an elbow. That is naaassty.
OBrien looks up at the clock and then as Fukado takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, OBrien smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Fukado is still in real trouble! Can OBrien finish him?
OBrien is staying tight to Fukado's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Fukado felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

OBrien in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Fukado looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! OBrien turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lochlain OBrien!
A relieved looking Lochlain OBrien thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
