PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Un Kha (ranked 23378 p4p, 4069 weight class) and Jake Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kha kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Eye of the tiger. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 60 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Un Kha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mercer tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kha sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mercer somewhat.
Kha shoots in and drives through. Mercer sprawls well.
Mercer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kha pinned against the cage. Kha gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kha goes for a double leg but Mercer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mercer continues to drive forward.

Kha breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mercer tries to clinch but Kha is having none of it.
Kha throws a front kick aimed at Mercer's knee but Mercer avoids it well.
Mercer wants to clinch.
Kha throws a big counter combination but Mercer scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Mercer looks to land a combination but Kha avoids it well.
Kha throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mercer's waist but Mercer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kha off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Un Kha. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kha dives in for a single leg takedown but Mercer sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Kha breaks the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Mercer. No joy for Kha on that attempt.
Mercer throws a right and a left that Kha avoids nicely.
Mercer lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Kha fails to land the takedown.

Mercer fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kha sprawls well initially but Mercer persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mercer wants to free his trapped foot but Kha is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Kha makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kha.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mercer engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kha looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mercer controls from within his opponent's guard.
Mercer looking to pass the guard.

Kha keeping moving, preventing Mercer from controlling successfully.
Mercer looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kha closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mercer circles away.

Mercer looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Kha!
Mercer is looking to take a break and control but Kha is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mercer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kha keeps working.

Mercer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kha has escaped the position, nice work there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mercer is trying to get an arm triangle but Kha is defending well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Mercer dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mercer tries to clinch but Kha is having none of it.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kha.

Kha gets caught napping as Mercer dives in and scores a takedown. Kha manages to retain guard.

Kha pushes Mercer off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Mercer looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Kha has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Mercer is on him like a limpet, forcing Kha back against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mercer goes for a takedown attempt but Kha pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Mercer fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kha is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Un Kha is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Kha fails to land the takedown.
Mercer scores with a leg kick.
Mercer shoots in looking for a takedown but Kha manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mercer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Un Kha has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Mercer.
Kha moves out of range of the body kick from Mercer.
Kha throws a head kick that misses.
Kha keeps the fight on the outside.
Un Kha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kha shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Mercer won't allow Kha to pass to mount.
Mercer holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Mercer is trying to stand back up but Kha is controlling him

Kha looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mercer is looking to escape.

Kha is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mercer is just riding it out for now. Kha eventually gives up the hold.
Mercer keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Kha is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mercer is refusing to be controlled, as Kha sits in half guard.
Mercer is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Kha seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mercer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A swing and a miss from Kha.
Mercer steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Kha.
Kha changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mercer tries to avoid it but Kha manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mercer to the ground. Mercer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kha fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mercer unleashes a big counter combination but Kha bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Un Kha dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Mercer closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kha to the mat! Kha manages to get full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kha holds on and takes a little breather.
Kha knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mercer on the ground.
Mercer controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mercer is fighting to break Kha's control of his arms but Kha is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Mercer sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kha's guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mercer in particular looking to stall.
Mercer is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Mercer prevents Kha from getting the reversal.
Mercer wants to control the pace but Kha is squirming around nicely.
Mercer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Mercer jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kha manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Jake Mercer has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kha is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mercer asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Kha keeping his opponent close.

Kha is letting Mercer control him for a moment.
Mercer wants to take a breather but Kha manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Mercer.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mercer drops back looking for a leg! Kha is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kha manages to kick Mercer off! Mercer jumps back into Kha's guard.
Mercer is pushing down on Kha's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kha is fighting to maintain full guard but Mercer has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kha is trying to stand up here but Mercer is controlling him well.
Mercer tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kha knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mercer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kha does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

I think Mercer has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
