Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gerard Messing (ranked 863 p4p, 1199 weight class) and Akubundu Yobachukwu (ranked 109 p4p, 148 weight class). Yobachukwu is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Hate Me Now. On his way into the cage it seems that Gerard Messing has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Gerard Messing seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gerard Messing! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Akubundu Yobachukwu! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yobachukwu changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Messing looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Yobachukwu working away. Messing tries to get back to half guard but can't. Yobachukwu controls the position from side control. Messing sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.  It looks like Gerard Messing has been cut. Messing works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Yobachukwu will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

 That's five minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Messing accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Messing controlling from the top position. Gerard Messing overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Messing trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Messing stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yobachukwu swivels though and keeps the full guard. Yobachukwu has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Ruttos gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Messing throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Yobachukwu works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Messing working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Yobachukwu's head.  The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Messing tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Yobachukwu defends well and Messing ends up having to push Yobachukwu into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. I was talking to Messing's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

 It looks like Akubundu Yobachukwu has been cut. Messing wants to control the pace but Yobachukwu is squirming around nicely. Messing is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Messing goes for an armbar but Yobachukwu turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Yobachukwu.

Gerard Messing dominated that second round. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Messing closes this distance looking for a takedown but Yobachukwu circles away. Yobachukwu throws a push kick but Messing slaps the foot to one side. Messing slips a jab and a cross from Yobachukwu.

Messing closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Yobachukwu did well to prevent Messing getting side control.
Yobachukwu manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Messing keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. A head punch on the inside from Yobachukwu fails to land.

Messing postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Messing is fighting to break Yobachukwu's control of his arms but Yobachukwu is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Yobachukwu keeping moving, preventing Messing from controlling successfully.
Messing drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Yobachukwu dives on top into guard.

and Messing counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Yobachukwu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Yobachukwu scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Messing manages to mount him!
Messing takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Messing tries to control but Yobachukwu wriggling away. Yobachukwu wants to get back to his feet.
Messing throws a sloppy strike and Yobachukwu uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Yobachukwu has ended up in Messing's guard.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Yobachukwu wanted to stand there but Messing had control of the position. Messing looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yobachukwu is one step ahead there.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:37 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Gerard Messing! Gerard Messing decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
