Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Terrance Knight (ranked 1547 p4p, 2321 weight class) and Emilio Ortega (ranked 190 p4p, 268 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Terrance Knight! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Emilio Ortega! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ortega scores with a sloppy right hand. Knight should have avoided that one. Ortega works Knight's body with a nice hook. Ortega shoots for a takedown but Knight saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Ortega misses with a body shot.

Knight shoots in for a double leg but Ortega sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Ortega ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Knight moves away. Knight swings for the body but Ortega moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Knight misses with an uppercut
and Ortega counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Ortega swings and misses with a hook to the body.

and Knight counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ortega won't be happy with that. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Knight looks up at the clock and then as Ortega takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Knight smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Ortega tries to improve position but can't. The ground and pound from Knight seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Knight definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Ortega is looking for a sweep. Knight looks up at the clock and then as Ortega takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Knight smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Knight is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Ortega's shoulder. That is not cool. Knight scoring with punches and elbows. Knight working away. Knight in side control, throwing shots but Ortega defends. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Ortega manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Ortega is pressing down on Knight's thigh, looking to free his foot. Knight is holding on for now. Knight has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ortega is working away from the top position though. Knight tries to roll over but Ortega keeps him under control. Knight keeping hold of Ortega's head, controlling as best he can. Knight is looking for a sweep. Ortega is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Ortega throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Knight is looking to control Ortega's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Knight avoid being mounted? Knight wants to get back to full guard. Ortega throwing shots but Knight is blocking nicely. Ortega controlling the action here.  The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Ortega stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Ortega bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Knight's head backwards. A jab from Knight misses. Ortega takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Knight shoots in for a double leg but Ortega sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Knight keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
 It looks like Emilio Ortega has been cut. Ortega ducks under a wild hook from Knight.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Ortega misses with a takedown attempt - Knight sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Knight misses with a straight left. Ortega looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Knight keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Knight shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ortega as he avoids it easily. and Ortega counters with a straight right hand. Knight throws a body shot but no joy. Despite the aggression on Ortega's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. Knight misses with a takedown attempt and Ortega counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Ortega connects with a nice looking jab.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Knight has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Knight there as he acknowledges the shot. Knight slips a jab and a cross from Ortega.

and Ortega counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Knight thinking. Ortega drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Ortega has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off. Ortega uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ortega moves out of range as Knight strikes. Ortega has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Ortega misses the shot to the body.  That's two minutes gone in the round. Ortega feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Knights jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Knight. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Terrance Knight. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ortega uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. A swing and a miss from Knight. Knight darts in looking for a takedown but Ortega gets double underhooks and turns Knight into the cage.

Ortega manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Knight utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Knight is trying to control the position but Ortega postures up. Ortega wants to pass the guard but Knight is keeping the position. Knight pulls Ortega in close to prevent any damage.
 The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Knight digs a good body shot into Ortega's ribs. Knight looks to throw the jab but Ortega is out of range. Ortega connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Knight swings away with a body shot that misses
and Ortega counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Knight rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
enabling Ortega to counter with a crisp jab. Ortega tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Knight was well out of range. Poor timing from Ortega. Knight attempts a counter takedown but Ortega avoids it well and moves away. Ortega throws a left and a right that both miss
and Knight counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Ortega!
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Ortega is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Knight is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Knight looks up at the clock and then as Ortega takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Knight smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Knight trying to control the action but Ortega is working from the bottom. Ortega is trying to control Knight's posture but Knight avoids it. Ortega is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Knight's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Knight is looking to pass Ortega's guard but actually Ortega recovers to full guard. Knight seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Ortega pulls Knight in close to his closed guard and prevents Knight from doing any damage or advancing position. Ortega keeping moving, preventing Knight from controlling successfully. Ortega tries to land a sweep but no joy. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Knight showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Knight scores with a decent looking elbow strike. And that is the end of the round.
