Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris Rivers (ranked 2677 p4p, 5058 weight class) and Ethan Walters (ranked 314 p4p, 0 weight class). Walters has chosen Shepard Of Fire as his entrance music. Ethan Walters is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ethan Walters!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rivers gets caught flat footed, as Walters shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Walters landing with the ground and pound.
Rivers manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Walters manages to get himself to full guard.

Walters is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Walters wants to control his opponent's hands but Rivers gets his hands free.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Walters dives in and scores a takedown into Rivers's guard.
Rivers might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rivers is on top in guard.

Rivers is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Rivers stops Walters from standing up.
Rivers controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Walters wants to improve his position but instead Rivers has moved into half guard.

Rivers is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Rivers is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Walters can do to turn this around?
Walters is trying to get back to full guard.
Walters is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rivers's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rivers's back!

Rivers manages to reverse the position and now he's in Walters's guard. Nice work there by Rivers.
Rivers is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Walters is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Walters wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rivers keeps working.
Walters is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Rivers wants to get back to full guard.

Walters is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rivers is just riding it out for now. Walters eventually gives up the hold.
Rivers is looking to improve his position.
Walters has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rivers is looking to improve his position but Walters isn't that keen on the idea.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chris Rivers will probably get the nod.
That's time! Rivers's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Rivers clinches with his opponent.

Walters has Rivers pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Walters pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Rivers tumbling to the mat - Walters dives into Rivers's guard.

Rivers pushes Walters off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

and Rivers counters with a slapping leg kick.
Walters tries to close the distance and clinch but Rivers swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Walters closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rivers's guard.

Rivers wriggles free and stands up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Walters manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Rivers on his heels. He'll look to pass Rivers's guard now, I'm sure.

Rivers manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Walters gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Rivers regains guard.

Rivers has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Walters off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Walters takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Rivers's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Walters looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rivers has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Rivers is taking a breather. Walters says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Rivers is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Walters sees it coming and defends easily.

Rivers controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rivers scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Walters is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Rivers is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Walters looks calm but he's in trouble here. Rivers gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Walters is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Rivers lets go of the hold and Walters can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Chris Rivers!
Ethan Walters was interviewed post fight and said 'I think I was doing well, kept the game plan going. but couldn't get the job done, well bounce back and make a name for ourselves.'.
