PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Usaa Mera (ranked 25265 p4p, 3529 weight class) and Graham Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Usaa Mera has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Usaa Mera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Graham Grant!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mera shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Grant as he jumps to the side.

Grant shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mera manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Grant forces his way into half guard.
Mera tries to roll over but Grant keeps him under control.
Grant throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mera trying to hold on to Grant's head to control him but Grant postures up.
Mera is looking to improve his position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Grant connects with a nice short shot to Mera's temple.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grant drops an elbow to the side of Mera's head.
Grant thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Grant lands strikes from half guard.
Mera is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Grant is looking to advance position but Mera won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grant works his way into full mount!
Grant sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Mera can't escape the position.

Grant landing strikes from the mount and Mera is in trouble!

Mera is looking to improve his position but Grant isn't that keen on the idea.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
BOOM! Grant connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Grant lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Grant is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mera to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mera shrugs it off.
Grant looking to control but Mera is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Grant might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mera haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Grant connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Mera tries to hold on but Grant postures up.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Grant has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Grant is working Mera over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Graham Grant has got the better of the ground game so far.
Grant postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Grant works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Grant is nestled in close to Mera, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Grant lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Mera is trying to maintain the position but Grant is very close to passing his half guard.
Mera tries to roll over but Grant keeps him under control.

Grant seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Grant content to control rather than advance.

Grant content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Mera is trying to stand back up but Grant is controlling him
Grant is looking to stall here but Mera recovers full guard.
Mera keeping moving, preventing Grant from controlling successfully.
Grant stands up over Mera, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Grant lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Grant would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Grant sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Grant is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Grant wants to control from the top but Mera keeps moving.
Grant controls from within his opponent's guard.
Mera keeping full guard, as Grant tries to pass.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mera has momentary wrist control but Grant slips an elbow through the middle.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Graham Grant showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Mera tries to score a power double leg takedown but Grant sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mera somewhat.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Grant's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Grant is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Grant trying to control the position from guard on top but Mera is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Grant is pushing down on Mera's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mera is fighting to maintain full guard but Grant has managed to sneak the leg through.

Mera is staying active underneath Grant, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Grant in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Mera tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Grant!
