This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 45 wins and 24 losses; Jisoo Oh! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 27 wins and 13 losses; Khadem Abdul Karim! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yuuki Gou.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Abdul Karim closes the distance and clinches up with Oh, looking for a takedown. Abdul Karim pushes Oh against the cage but Oh circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Abdul Karim shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Abdul Karim showed some decent athleticism there. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Oh (0) vs (2) Abdul Karim The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Abdul Karim with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Oh is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at HELLCADEMY that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Abdul Karim's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Oh is trying to control but can't.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Abdul Karim must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Oh is pulling down on Abdul Karim's head. It's preventing any offense from Abdul Karim, at least for the moment.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Oh wants to control but Abdul Karim passes easily into half guard.

It looks like Abdul Karim might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Oh is positioning himself well to prevent Abdul Karim advancing to mount.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Abdul Karim in particular looking to stall. Oh regains full guard. Nicely done. Oh has his hands on Abdul Karim's head, controlling the position. Abdul Karim tries to free his leg and advance position but Oh is retaining full guard.

 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here as Oh stalls from top position. Abdul Karim tries to improve position but can't. You can see the frustration on Abdul Karim's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Who's going to make the next move? The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Oh trying to control the action but Abdul Karim is working from the bottom. Oh is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Abdul Karim is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here. I wouldn't like to be where Abdul Karim is right now. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Oh wants to control but Abdul Karim is keeping him busy.
And that's the end of the fight! Oh takes the fight on points by 5 to 2. Our winner, Jisoo Oh, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. |
