This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 6 losses; Yakubu Okoroji! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 14 wins and 5 losses; Saul Hunter! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Hirohito Nitta.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Hunter shoots for a double leg takedown but Okoroji sprawls well. He's pushed Hunter's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Okoroji gets caught flat footed, as Hunter shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Okoroji (0) vs (2) Hunter Hunter stays in close to Okoroji's body and controls the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Okoroji tries to land a sweep but no joy. Okoroji is working hard here to advance position.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Hunter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Okoroji might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Hunter postures up.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Okoroji wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Hunter postures up.
Okoroji is really struggling to control Hunter but he's trying to hold on to the position. Hunter is stalling in the full guard. Okoroji has Hunter pulled in close to control his posture.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Hunter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Okoroji is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Okoroji can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hunter controls the pace. Okoroji is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hunter's corner is telling him to maintain position. Let's hope that Hunter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Hunter's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Okoroji wants to sweep but no luck. Hunter passes easily into side control. Nice work. Score +3 for passing guard: Okoroji (0) vs (5) Hunter Hunter slows the pace down.

 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Hunter in side control, just content to control the action for now. Okoroji tries to get back to half guard but can't.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Hunter just content to control the position. It looks like Hunter might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Okoroji tries to bench press Hunter off him but Hunter keeps the position.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Okoroji gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Hunter trying to pass the guard but Okoroji defending well. Hunter controlling the action here. Okoroji gets full guard.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Hunter looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Hunter advances to half guard.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Hunter looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Hunter content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Hunter wants to free his trapped foot but Okoroji is holding on for dear life with his legs.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Okoroji trying to control here.
Hunter with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Okoroji is looking to control Hunter's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Okoroji avoid being mounted? Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that's the end of the fight! Hunter wins on points by 5 to 0. Saul Hunter decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well. |
