And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 47 wins and 24 losses; Jisoo Oh! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yuuki Gou and Taro Takaoka.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Oh throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Singleton was covering up waiting for the punch and Oh finishes the takedown easily into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Singleton (0) vs (2) Oh Oh pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Singleton is keeping the position for now. Oh works a leg free and moves into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Oh sitting and controlling from the half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Singleton is looking to control Oh's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Singleton avoid being mounted? The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Singleton has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Oh wants to lay and pray for a moment but Singleton keeps working. Singleton tries to get to full guard but Oh has control of the leg.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. Singleton tries to land a sweep but no joy. Singleton keeping full guard, as Oh tries to pass. Singleton seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Oh told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Singleton bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Oh's guard.  That's five minutes gone in the round. Singleton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Oh is trying to keep Singleton in close.
Oh is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Oh has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Oh can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Singleton controls the pace. Oh trying to control the position.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Singleton is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Oh is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Singleton showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Singleton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Singleton slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Score +3 for passing guard: Singleton (5) vs (2) Oh Singleton is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Oh will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Oh tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Singleton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Oh is trying to control Singleton's posture but Singleton avoids it. A lull in the action here. Oh is trying to get back to half guard.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Singleton controlling from side mount. Oh is looking to regain half guard here but Singleton keeps moving and retains side control. Singleton happy to just control the position for now.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Oh keeps Singleton under control for a moment. You can see the frustration on Oh's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Oh is trying to escape the position but Singleton is controlling the position.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Singleton has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Oh tries to buck Singleton off but Singleton is having none of it.
Singleton looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Singleton staying calm.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Oh is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here. This is a sustained period of stalling by Singleton. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Singleton seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Oh for as long as he can get away with.
And that's the end of the fight! Singleton takes the fight on points by 5 to 2. Tubbs Singleton retains his super heavyweight title! After winning the bout, Tubbs Singleton thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
