This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 45 wins and 31 losses; Isaac Vernon! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 16 wins and 8 losses; Ceasar Rules! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Hirohito Nitta and Yuuki Gou.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Rules looks for a takedown but Vernon sprawls well. Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Vernon shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rules's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Vernon (2) vs (0) Rules Rules not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Vernon passes Rules's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Rules controlling the position for now. Vernon is figuring out what he wants to do next. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Rules is controlling Vernon's position as best he can from this difficult position. Vernon has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Vernon trying to pass the guard but Rules defending well. Vernon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Vernon is trying to control the action in half guard but Rules is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Rules tries to get to full guard but Vernon has control of the leg. Rules is trying to control but Vernon manages to pass to mount!
Score +3 for passing guard: Vernon (5) vs (0) Rules We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Rules is squirming around, avoiding Vernon's attempts to control the action. Vernon controlling from mount.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Vernon avoids the attempt from Rules to control. Vernon takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Rules told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Rules tries to hold on but Vernon pushes him away. Rules regains half guard.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Vernon is pressing down on Rules's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rules is holding on for now. Vernon sitting and controlling from the half guard. Rules trying to control from the bottom.
Vernon tries to pass to full mount but Rules defends it.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Rules keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rules is looking to improve his position.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Vernon sitting and controlling from the half guard. Rules is looking to control Vernon's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rules avoid being mounted? Vernon trying to control the action but Rules is working from the bottom. Rules is looking for a sweep. Vernon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Vernon looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Vernon passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Rules! Score +3 for passing guard: Vernon (8) vs (0) Rules Rules is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Vernon trying to control but Rules is having none of it. Vernon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Rules tries to hold on but Vernon postures up. Rules really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Vernon wants to take Rules's back but he can't do it this time. Rules tries to lock up and control but Vernon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Rules is wriggling around trying to escape.
Vernon sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Rules tries to reverse the position but Vernon maintains control.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Rules bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Vernon (8) vs (2) Rules Rules is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Vernon is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Rules tries to free his leg and advance position but Vernon is retaining full guard.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Vernon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rules controls the pace. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vernon wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Rules pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Vernon is keeping the position for now. Rules is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Rules is looking to advance position but Vernon has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Vernon (12) vs (2) Rules Vernon can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rules is looking to escape.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Vernon controlling from the full mount. Rules is wriggling around trying to escape.
Vernon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Rules wants to control but Vernon is having none of it. Vernon controlling his opponent.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Rules stops Vernon from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Vernon manages to capitalize on a mistake by Rules to take his back! Score +3 for taking back: Vernon (15) vs (2) Rules Vernon is not going to allow Rules to sit and survive in this position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Vernon controls the action.
