PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight kickboxing rules bout between Gaizka Elizondo (ranked 20743 p4p, 24673 weight class) and Dam Khao Chai (ranked 521 p4p, 519 weight class). Elizondo comes into the arena with Peewee Longway & Money Man - Ooowwweee blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 41 - 32 - 3, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gaizka Elizondo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Dam Khao Chai! The judges for this bout are Roosa J�rvil�inen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Elizondo throws an overhand right that lands on Chai's shoulder, as Chai tries to avoid the shot. Elizondo cracks a nice hook into Chai's ribs. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Chai crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Elizondo - the referee stops the clock and Chai gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Elizondo. Chai manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Elizondo stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Elizondo slips under a jab. Elizondo is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Chai. A looping hook to the body misses from Chai. Elizondo does a little dance to reset his feet. Elizondo thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Chai if he has to take too many more of those.
Chai throws a hook but Elizondo avoids it easily. Elizondo cracks Chai with a right hand to the side of the head. Elizondo throws a low kick but Chai moves out of range easily. Elizondo backing away here, and Chai unleashes a leg kick that just misses. Elizondo throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Chai counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Elizondo lands with a nice combination. Chai backs away looking to recover. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Elizondo throws a lazy right hand but Chai sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Chai swings away with a body shot that misses
and Elizondo counters with a straight right hand. Chai wants to slow Elizondo down by chopping away at his legs. Chai doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Chai takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. That kick from Elizondo tenderised Chai's leg. Chai is trying to keep his angry face on. Elizondo scores with a nice right hand.
Chai slips a jab and a cross from Elizondo.
Chai tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Chai comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Chai throws a jab but it's blocked by Elizondo. Elizondo ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. A looping hook to the body misses from Elizondo. Chai does a little dance to reset his feet.
Chai pushes Elizondo up against the ropes in a clinch. Chai tries a knee to the head but Elizondo blocks it.
Chai lands a hook to the side of the head. Elizondo tries to land a knee to the head but Chai blocks with his arms.
Chai lands on the inside with an uppercut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Elizondo is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the ropes. Chai looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Chai throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Our sources have told us that Elizondo has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight. Chai throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Elizondo blocks it with crossed arms.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Elizondo is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Chai lands a right hand. Chai prevents a body shot from Elizondo. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. A quick uppercut on the inside from Chai. Chai has Elizondo pressed against the ropes, preventing Elizondo from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Elizondo doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

A battle for position here, against the ropes. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Chai pushes Elizondo back against the ropes and unloads with a body punch. Chai crunches a lovely knee into Elizondo's ribcage. Chai lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
A short body shot lands from Chai as the two fighters clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Gaizka Elizondo will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Elizondo lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Elizondo ducks into a a hook from Chai and goes down! He looks in a bit of a mess; will he beat the count?! 4,5,6,7,8 - he's up and looking to carry on! The referee looks into his eyes and sees that he's OK to continue! Chai throws a body punch but Elizondo moves out of range. Elizondo takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Chai weaves into range and cracks Elizondo right on the temple with a beautiful overhand right! Elizondo goes down! He's out cold! Wow, what a beautiful knockout! Chai is strutting round the canvas like a movie star as the camera bulbs flash frantically.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Dam Khao Chai! Dam Khao Chai decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well. In defeat, Gaizka Elizondo stepped up to the mic, saying 'gonna take some time off '.
