PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fateh Singh (ranked 4481 p4p, 25540 weight class) and Jaxson Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Fateh Singh! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jaxson Ray! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Atkins and Colin Fotheringham.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ray fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Singh sprawls well initially but Ray persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Singh makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Ray keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Singh fails with a takedown attempt. Singh fails with an attempt to clinch.
As Singh backs off Ray throws a huge counter combo but Singh manages to avoid it all.
Singh looking to score a takedown here. Ray is defending well but Singh drives through and ends up in Ray's guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Singh pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ray is keeping the position for now.
Singh postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ray is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Singh, into his guard.
Ray stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Singh swivels though and keeps the full guard.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Ray keeps trying to improve his position.
Singh escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ray gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Singh seems keen to control Ray's posture. Singh is trying to control the position but Ray postures up.
Singh is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ray is aware though and is defending well.
Ray decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Singh, up you get!
 That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ray looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Singh! Singh is not content to let Ray control the position. Singh can't do much from the bottom here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ray working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Singh is positioning himself to get back to half guard. You can see the frustration on Singh's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Ray remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Ray wants to stand but Singh has his arm trapped. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Singh is trying to control Ray's posture but Ray avoids it.
 The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ray gets the takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Singh tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Ray has hold of Singh's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Singh manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Singh slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Ray landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Fateh Singh will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Singh. Singh shoots and misses and Ray counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Ray throws a leg kick and Singh counters with a head kick.
Ray closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Ray wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Ray gets control of Singh's arms and successfully pulls guard. Ray will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Singh is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Singh trying to control but Ray is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ray is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Singh trying to control the position from guard on top but Ray is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Ray wants to sweep here but Singh controlling him for the moment. Singh wants to control from the top but Ray keeps moving.
Singh is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ray is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ray has escaped and now he's on top!
Ray passes Singh's left leg - he's now in half guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Singh is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Ray wants to stand up but Singh has a hold of him and won't allow it. Ray wants to lay and pray for a moment but Singh keeps working. Singh is looking to control Ray's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Singh avoid being mounted?
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Singh manages to get to full guard.
Ray trying to stand up but can't free himself from Singh's guard. Ray is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Singh thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Singh looking to control.
 The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Ray shoots in and bounces Singh off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Singh looking for a sweep. Not yet Singh, not yet. Ray content to stall in guard here. Singh looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ray is one step ahead there. Singh trying to control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jaxson Ray showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

 Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Singh working a defensive guard here.
Singh wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Singh being controlled here, momentarily. Ray must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Singh is trying to keep Ray in close.
Ray tries to free his leg and advance position but Singh is retaining full guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Singh working a defensive guard here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Singh keeping full guard, as Ray tries to pass.
 The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Singh pushes Ray up against the cage in a clinch. Singh is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Ray is trying to break free. Singh looking for a takedown. Singh blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Come on Singh - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Singh has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ray after a bit of a struggle. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fateh Singh. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ray jumps guard.
Singh stands and throws Ray's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Singh is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ray is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Ray manages to get back to half guard. Ray tries to get to full guard but Singh has control of the leg.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Singh is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Ray! Singh lands a big elbow. Ray is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Ray really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Singh. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ray takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ray tries to improve his position but Singh has taken his back! Singh has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Ray tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Singh pushes Ray away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Fateh Singh!
