And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 119 wins and 75 losses; Bogdan Kersikov! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yuuki Gou and Shirou Masuda.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Kersikov throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Borgia was covering up waiting for the punch and Kersikov finishes the takedown easily into guard. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Borgia is adopting a defensive guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.  That's one minute gone in the round. My spies in KFA inform me that Kersikov has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Borgia has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Borgia is looking to sweep but instead, Kersikov has passed into half guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Kersikov stalling away here and it's allowed Borgia to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Borgia controls Kersikov momentarily but Kersikov frees himself. Borgia looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kersikov is one step ahead there.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Kersikov trying to control the position from guard on top but Borgia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Borgia has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Borgia keeping full guard, as Kersikov tries to pass. Borgia pulls Kersikov in close to his closed guard and prevents Kersikov from doing any damage or advancing position.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Kersikov wants to control from the top but Borgia keeps moving. Borgia is controlling Kersikov's posture. Kersikov's corner is telling him to maintain position. Kersikov's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Borgia has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kersikov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Borgia looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Kersikov controls from within his opponent's guard.

Borgia trying to control the hands but Kersikov won't let him.
