This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 4 losses; Kurki Potku! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shirou Masuda.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Potku closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kulik did well to prevent Potku getting side control. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Kulik (0) vs (2) Potku Kulik wants to control but Potku is keeping busy and won't allow it. Potku slows the pace down in half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Potku wants to pass to mount but Kulik is defending the position.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Potku is controlling the pace.
Kulik is looking for a sweep. Potku is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Kulik is working hard here to advance position.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Kulik moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Kulik really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Potku stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kulik swivels though and keeps the full guard.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Kulik pulls Potku in close to prevent any damage. Kulik has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Kulik looking for a sweep. Not yet Kulik, not yet.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Potku showing good wrestling skills to control the position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kulik is on top in guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Kulik (2) vs (2) Potku Kulik wants to control from the top but Potku keeps moving. Potku working a defensive guard but Kulik manages to pass into side control anyway.
Score +3 for passing guard: Kulik (5) vs (2) Potku The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Kulik tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Kulik taking a breather here. Potku tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kulik wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Potku being controlled for a moment. Kulik will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Potku is looking for a sweep. Kulik trying to control the position but Potku is working away. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Potku tries to bench press Kulik off him but Kulik keeps the position.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Kulik wants to control but Potku is keeping him busy. Kulik is really struggling to control Potku but he's trying to hold on to the position. Kulik controlling the position. Potku is looking to reverse the position.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Potku is still trying to improve position. Kulik wants to control but Potku is keeping him busy. Potku is trying to control Kulik's posture but Kulik avoids it. Kulik tries to advance to mount but can't.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Potku is looking to regain half guard here but Kulik keeps moving and retains side control. Potku manages to get back to half guard. Kulik is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Potku trying to keep a closed guard but Kulik is proving a slippery customer.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Our spies down at at HELLCADEMY inform us that Potku has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Potku keeping moving, preventing Kulik from controlling successfully. Kulik pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Potku is keeping the position for now. Potku can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kulik controls the pace.

 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Kulik seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Kulik trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Potku holds on and takes a little breather. Kulik trying to control the position from guard on top but Potku is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kulik wants to pass the guard but Potku is keeping the position.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Kulik advances position into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Kulik (8) vs (2) Potku Potku is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! Kulik takes the fight on points by 8 to 2. After winning the bout, Vasiliy Kulik thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
