The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Savage shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Marlin napping and manages to drive through into side control! Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Marlin (0) vs (4) Savage
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Savage trying to control the position but Marlin is working away.
Savage tries to move to mount but Marlin blocks the move with his legs.
Savage tries to advance position but instead Marlin slips a leg back in to half guard.
Marlin wants to get back to full guard.
Savage wants to work for an arm triangle but Marlin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Savage is stalling here. Marlin is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Savage wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Marlin has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Savage's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Savage is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Marlin!
