Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Salter JR (ranked 1343 p4p, 1863 weight class) and Joe Patterson (ranked 134 p4p, 191 weight class). Joe Patterson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Salter JR! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Patterson! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Bruno Lombardi and Russell Pearce.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
JR manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Patterson on his heels. He'll look to pass Patterson's guard now, I'm sure. Patterson is trying to keep JR in close.
JR stops Patterson from standing up. JR landing with the ground and pound. JR lands a couple of decent looking shots. JR trying to control but Patterson is working from the bottom. JR stands up over Patterson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. JR throws a big right hand that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. JR postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. JR throws a strike but Patterson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Patterson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. JR is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Patterson is controlling him. JR on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if JR tries to get out of the position.
 That's one minute gone in the round. JR has Patterson pulled in close to control his posture. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Patterson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Patterson stops JR from standing up. Patterson has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA Las Vegas. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Patterson chips away with some ground and pound. Patterson stopping the sweep attempt from JR. Patterson trying to control but JR is working from the bottom. Patterson won't allow JR to sweep him here.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Patterson with a flurry of punches that miss. JR is pulling down on Patterson's head to control his posture.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Patterson throws the kick towards the body but JR avoids it.
JR fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Patterson to the ground. JR is now in Patterson's guard.
Patterson scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Patterson takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Patterson tries to sprawl but JR drives through with a takedown into half guard. Patterson is trying to control but can't.
JR working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Patterson taking some punishment here, with JR in his half guard.

JR takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
JR looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
JR sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Patterson defending well though. JR slips a nice elbow through Patterson's hands, connecting with Patterson's forehead. Patterson taking some punishment here, with JR in his half guard. JR lands strikes from half guard. JR looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Patterson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. JR scoring with strikes to the body and head. Patterson wants to get back to full guard. JR wants to lay and pray for a moment but Patterson keeps working. JR working the head and body with strikes. JR is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. JR is keen to just control but Patterson is a slippery customer. Patterson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Patterson gets full guard. JR has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. JR loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. JR really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill... JR passes easily into side control. Nice work. Patterson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with JR. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! JR landing strikes. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Salter JR dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

JR closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. JR misses with a knee to the head. JR working some nice short punches in the clinch. JR landing knees to the head.

Patterson looking to slow down the pace here. Patterson misses with a punch to the body.
JR tries a knee to the head but Patterson blocks it.
JR crunches a lovely knee into Patterson's ribcage. JR is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Patterson is defending well for now. JR is working for takedown but Patterson is calmly controlling the position for now. JR is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Patterson can do to turn this around? We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A short uppercut from Patterson.
JR works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! JR trying to control the position from guard on top but Patterson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. JR throws a big right hand that misses.

JR drops back, looking for a kneebar! Patterson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Patterson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Patterson!

Patterson trying to control the position but JR is working away. Patterson throwing strikes but JR manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! JR in side control lands a decent elbow. JR tries to score with some ground and pound. Patterson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. JR scoring with punches from side control.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. JR working the ground and pound. Patterson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Patterson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. JR wants to free his trapped foot but Patterson is holding on for dear life with his legs. JR missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. JR slips a nice elbow through Patterson's hands, connecting with Patterson's forehead. Patterson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
JR is trying a forearm choke� I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

JR is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Patterson. Patterson is looking for the big counter here. JR tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Patterson counters with a left to the body.

JR lands on the inside with an uppercut. Patterson is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. JR is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Patterson pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Patterson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. JR scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. JR looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Patterson takes a jab right on the kisser.

JR bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. JR lands some shots froms side control. JR tries to advance to mount but Patterson denies him. JR cracks Patterson with an elbow. That is naaassty. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. JR in side control lands a decent elbow. JR creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. JR trying to control the action but Patterson is working from the bottom. JR lands a nice forearm strike. JR tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no JR has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! JR scoring with punches and elbows. JR working the ground and pound. JR landing strikes.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Patterson is trying to get back to half guard. JR is working Patterson over with some ground and pound from side control.
 Patterson is rocked! JR lands a few punches from side control. Patterson is still in real trouble! Can JR finish him? JR lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Patterson down.
A big shot lands for JR! That's hurt Patterson! Will he recover? JR fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
