Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ross Clay (ranked 25368 p4p, 25642 weight class) and Alex Burns (ranked 461 p4p, 485 weight class). Ross Clay has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Ross Clay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Burns!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, John Roberts and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Burns takes the fight into the clinch.

Burns breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Burns tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Clay swivels and escapes.
Clay stuffs the takedown attempt from Burns. Burns gets slowly back to his feet.
A head kick by Burns misses
and Clay makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Clay shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Burns defends it nicely.
Clay throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clay tries to clinch up but Burns circles away and keeps his distance.
Burns feints the counter takedown.
Clay throws a right and a left that both miss.
Clay throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Clay stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Horrible takedown attempt by Burns or perhaps it was just good defense by Clay, which made it look bad.
Ross Clay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Burns.

Clay closes the distance and pushes Burns back into the cage.

Burns pulls Clay into guard.

Burns has his foot on Clay's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Clay works his way back into a safe position though.
Burns being controlled here, momentarily.

Clay stands up from Burns's guard - Clay perhaps looking for a knockout.
A swing and a miss from Burns.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Burns pushes Clay up against the cage in a clinch.
Clay wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Burns is trying to drag Clay to the mat but Clay just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Burns is working Clay over against the cage.

Burns pulls guard.
Burns wants to control but Clay passes easily into half guard.
Clay is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Burns is trying to control but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burns is looking for a sweep. Clay is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Burns trying to get back to full guard but Clay takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Burns is in all sorts of trouble here.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Burns can do anything to dispel that myth.
Burns is still trying to improve position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Burns wants to control but Clay is having none of it.
Burns is working to get back to half guard.
Clay scoring with strikes but Burns is staying in there.
Burns is squirming around, avoiding Clay's attempts to control the action.

Clay looking to isolate an arm here. Burns doesn't see it coming and as Clay extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Clay!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ross Clay!
Ross Clay took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
