PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Barron White (ranked 1158 p4p, 769 weight class) and Charles Barkley (ranked 58 p4p, 42 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Barkley's choice of entrance music: Space Jam. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 39 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Barron White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Charles Barkley!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paulsen Ambrosius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barkley slips under a jab from White.
Barkley scores with a jab.
White fails to land with a series of punches.

Barkley changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

White swings for the body but Barkley moves out of range.

Barkley shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Barkley is looking to take a break and control but White is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Barkley takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

enabling Barkley to counter with a crisp jab.

and Barkley counters with a stiff right hand.

Barkley swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
White takes a swing at Barkley's ribcage but misses.

and Barkley counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

It looks like Charles Barkley has been cut.
White throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Barkley sees it coming and avoids it easily.
White tests Barkley's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Barkley tries to clinch but White moves out of range.
White throws a predictable looking body shot
and Barkley counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
White jabbing away but nothing is landing.
White throws a shot from downtown. Barkley moves away and avoids it.
White rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Barkley counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Barkley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. White swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Barkley throws an elbow that misses. White uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Barkley's guard. Nice move by White!

White might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Barkley wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Barkley tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Barkley controlling the position.
White pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Barkley is keeping the position for now.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Barkley is on top in guard.

White connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

White misses with a hook. Barkley ducked under it nicely.

White throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Barkley sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Barkley throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Barkley tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but White defends well and Barkley ends up having to push White into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Charles Barkley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

White throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Barkley sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Barron White has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Charles Barkley is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
White throws a hook to the side of Barkley's head but Barkley sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Barkley waves his right hand out in front of him, looking to distract White. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped White to the canvas! Can he finish him!?

White is rocked!
Barkley in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Oh White is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Barkley has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Barkley throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as White works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Barkley postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
White pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
White getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

White is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
White throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Barkley counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Barkley has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

White is trying to escape the position but Barkley is controlling the position.

Barkley lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Barkley creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The strikes coming from Barkley are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Barkley postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

White keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Barkley in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Barkley loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have White scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Barkley land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Barkley stands and salutes the crowd.
