PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Titus Roux (ranked 5343 p4p, 3304 weight class) and Hotsi Log (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Titus Roux!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hotsi Log!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Log shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Roux as he jumps to the side.
Roux tries to counter with a takedown but Log is quick to defend against it.

Log feints and as Roux raises his hands in defense, Log changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Roux looking for subs off his back but Log has passed one foot through into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Log throws a strike but Roux avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Log scoring with punches to the head and body.
Log would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Roux looking to hit a scissor sweep but Log is one step ahead there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roux bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Log's guard.

Log keeping moving, preventing Roux from controlling successfully.
Log wants to sweep but no luck.

Roux drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Roux jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Log is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Roux is aware though and is defending well.
Roux stands and throws Log's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Log felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Log is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Roux is looking to take a break and control but Log is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Roux is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Log has escaped the position, nice work there.
Log is looking to get back to his feet here but Roux is keeping cool and he's managed to take Log's back.

Log is in a bad position with Roux working for a choke. Log manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

Log throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Roux works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Log trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Log postures up in Roux's guard and throws a big left but Roux blocks it.

Log stands and steps away. Roux gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Log is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Roux is controlling him.
Roux looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

That was a close round but I would say that Titus Roux will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Log with a nice cross.
Log fails with an attempt to clinch.
Log shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Roux pinned against the cage. Roux gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Log throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Roux's waist but Roux gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Log off to one side.

Titus Roux has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hotsi Log.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Roux drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Roux works to advance to full mount. Log defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Roux tries to take Log's back but instead Log uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Log is not content to let Roux control the position.

Roux is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Log is just riding it out for now. Roux eventually gives up the hold.
Roux is nestled in close to Log, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Log keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Log is in trouble now - Roux has advanced to mount!

Roux with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Log tries to close the distance and clinch up but Roux swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Log connects with a high kick.
Log shoots in but no luck this time.
Roux appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Roux shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Log is trying to defend but Roux finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Roux is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Roux swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Log is now in Roux's guard. A big mistake from Roux there, giving up the dominant position!

Log won't allow Roux to pass to mount.
Roux is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Roux pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Titus Roux showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Roux, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
