PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 23439 p4p, 23391 weight class) and Kulata Bitok (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 51 - 77 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 46 - 80 - 9, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kulata Bitok!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Bitok shoots in looking for a takedown but Buktot manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bitok's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bitok fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
It appears Buktot was looking to counter with a kick there.

Dawindi Buktot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kulata Bitok.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Buktot enables Bitok to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Buktot manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Bitok engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Bitok's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Buktot seems keen to control Bitok's posture.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bitok seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Bitok gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Buktot counters with a body kick.
Buktot shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bitok sprawls well. Bitok wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Buktot gets slowly back to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bitok throws the kick towards the body but Buktot avoids it.
Buktot thinks about countering with a body kick.

Bitok fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Buktot sprawls well initially but Bitok persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bitok thows a huge punch but Buktot dodges it nicely.
Bitok is controlling the pace.
Buktot is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kulata Bitok will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Bitok looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Buktot tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bitok defends well and Buktot ends up having to push Bitok into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Bitok turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Bitok manages to end up in side control.

Buktot dodges the ground and pound from Bitok.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Buktot is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Buktot shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Buktot showed some decent athleticism there.
Bitok controlling the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Buktot in particular looking to stall.
Bitok is trying to maintain the position but Buktot is very close to passing his half guard.
Buktot trying to mount his opponent but Bitok defends it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bitok controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Bitok is looking to control Buktot's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bitok avoid being mounted?
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buktot is trying to control. Bitok wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dawindi Buktot dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Buktot defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bitok.

Buktot decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bitok is doing well to control the position and prevent Buktot from advancing to side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot is taking a breather. Bitok says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Buktot is just content to waste time from the top position. Bitok takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Buktot seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Bitok closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Buktot to the mat! Buktot manages to get full guard.
Buktot is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Bitok slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Buktot is pulling down on Bitok's head to control his posture.
Buktot can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bitok controls the pace.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bitok trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Buktot manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Bitok has control of Buktot's left arm, preventing Buktot from doing any damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bitok is on top in guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dawindi Buktot.
I think Buktot has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
