PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Abdul King (ranked 3223 p4p, 5450 weight class) and Ethan Walters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walters comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Shepard Of Fire kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ethan Walters will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Abdul King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ethan Walters!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walters throws a body kick that misses

and King counters with a shoot takedown. Walters fights it but they end up in guard.
King is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
King trying to stand up but can't free himself from Walters's guard.
King stopping the sweep attempt from Walters.
King is stalling in the full guard.
Walters is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

King tries to free his leg and advance position but Walters is retaining full guard.
King slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

King shoots in and gets a takedown into Walters's guard.
King lands a couple of decent looking shots.
King is stalling in the full guard.
Walters trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Walters looking to control but King passes into half guard.
Walters is trying to defend against the ground and pound but King scores with a couple of nice shots.
King working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
King wants to pass to mount but Walters is defending the position.
King is taking a breather. Walters says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King wants to free his trapped foot but Walters is holding on for dear life with his legs.

King lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Walters is trying to maintain the position but King is very close to passing his half guard.
King content to control rather than advance.
Walters is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with King in particular looking to stall.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
King throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
As King backs off Walters throws a huge counter combo but King manages to avoid it all.

King fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Walters to the ground. King is now in Walters's guard.

Walters has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. King is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Walters is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but King is defending well.

King gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
King seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

King looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
King wants to stand but Walters has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Abdul King dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

King shoots for a double leg takedown but Walters sprawls well. He's pushed King's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Walters fakes high and swings low for a body shot but King manages to avoid it.

King shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than King was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
You can see the frustration on Walters's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Walters tries to buck King off but King is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Walters tries to hold on but King postures up.

Walters swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Walters regains half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Walters wants to control but King is keeping busy.
King wants to pass to mount but Walters is defending the position.
Walters wants to get back to full guard.
King content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Walters tries to get to full guard but King has control of the leg.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

King changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Walters looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Walters stops King from passing to mount.
King is putting a hurting on Walters here, landing some big shots from side control.

Abdul King overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Walters is looking for a sweep.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


King gets a takedown into half guard.

Walters has one foot on King's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Walters looks for a takedown but King sprawls well.

King gets caught napping as Walters dives in and scores a takedown. King manages to retain guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Walters trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
King is pulling down on Walters's head to control his posture.

King looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
King throws a body shot but no joy.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Walters is defended easily by King.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Walters throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and King counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Walters being controlled here, momentarily.
Walters controls King momentarily but King frees himself.
Walters takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
King controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
King stands and throws Walters's legs to the side, diving into side control.

King lands a few punches from side control.
You can see the frustration on Walters's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
King moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
King moves into full mount!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, King cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Ethan Walters has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Abdul King is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
King controlling the position easily from mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Abdul King showed his dominance in that final round.
Well King has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
