And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 4 losses; Zackery Russo! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Lou da Vinci and John Kavanagh.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Swayde throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Russo was covering up waiting for the punch and Swayde finishes the takedown easily into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Swayde (2) vs (0) Russo Russo has Swayde pulled in close to control his posture. Russo wants to sweep but no luck. Swayde seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Swayde sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Russo's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Swayde looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Russo felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Russo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Swayde is working away from the top position though.
