PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Masaru Aoki (ranked 2404 p4p, 3090 weight class) and Nathan Rice (ranked 263 p4p, 331 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Masaru Aoki has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Masaru Aoki seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masaru Aoki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nathan Rice!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rice clobbers Aoki with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Aoki throws a right and a left that Rice avoids nicely.
Aoki shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rice sprawls well. Rice wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Aoki gets slowly back to his feet.
Aoki throws a nice looking combination but Rice bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Rice closes the distance and clinches.
Rice lands an elbow inside that Aoki shrugs off.
Rice is trying to drag Aoki to the mat but Aoki just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Aoki is working Rice over against the cage.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Rice just misses with a elbow thrown towards Aoki's brow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aoki takes an elbow to the forehead.

Aoki has picked Rice up - he's going for a ride! Aoki dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Rice tries to roll over but Aoki keeps him under control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Aoki sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Rice defending well though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rice can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Aoki controls the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rice is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Rice preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Rice has a closed guard, preventing Aoki from standing up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nathan Rice is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Aoki connects with a looping right hand.
Aoki will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Rice moves into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Aoki manages to break the clinch.
Aoki throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Aoki falls off balance throwing a combination

and Rice counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Rice lands an elbow inside that Aoki shrugs off.
Rice misses with an elbow strike.
Aoki avoids a wild elbow strike from Rice.
Aoki wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Aoki blocks an elbow strike from Rice.
Aoki is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Rice has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Aoki seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Rice can turn it around.
Aoki gets underhooks to prevent Rice's takedown attempt.
Masaru Aoki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathan Rice.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Rice.
Aoki tries a body shot but Rice blocks it.
Aoki is trying to force a seperation but Rice has the dominant position.
Rice lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Aoki fails to pull guard.
With the fighters up against the cage, Rice throws an elbow but misses.
Aoki looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Rice pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Rice throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Rice cracks Aoki with a good jab.
Aoki throws a one two combo.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rice on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Rice is rocked!
Aoki misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rice is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Rice is still on wobbly legs! Can Aoki finish him?

Rice gets a clinch.
Rice is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Aoki is defending well.
Aoki dodges an elbow strike from Rice.
Aoki blocks an elbow strike.
Rice seems to have recovered his senses.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Aoki tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Aoki avoids a wild elbow strike from Rice.
Rice pushes off an throws an elbow but Aoki leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Aoki digs a right hand into Rice's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Rice's gas tank.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nathan Rice will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Aoki uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Rice.
Aoki connects with a combination that backs up Rice into the cage. Aoki lands a flurry of punches that gets past Rice's guard. Rice is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Aoki bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Masaru Aoki!
