This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 34 wins and 23 losses; Francisco Ngannou! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Okoroji dives in and grabs Ngannou's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ngannou pushes down on Okoroji's head and hops out. Okoroji shoots in looking for a takedown but Ngannou manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Okoroji's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Ngannou is trying hard to land a takedown here. Okoroji sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ngannou trying to control the pace. Okoroji tries to roll over but Ngannou keeps him under control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Okoroji stops Ngannou from passing to mount. Okoroji tries to buck Ngannou off but Ngannou is having none of it. Ngannou working away. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Okoroji is holding Ngannou down, trying to stall. You can see the frustration on Okoroji's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Ngannou controlling the position. Ngannou's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Okoroji is looking to regain half guard here but Ngannou keeps moving and retains side control. Okoroji is trying to control Ngannou's posture but Ngannou avoids it.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Ngannou tries to move into full mount but can't pass Okoroji's legs. Okoroji tries to improve position but can't. Okoroji struggling a bit here. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Okoroji is letting Ngannou control him for a moment.

Okoroji tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Ngannou presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!  That's ten minutes gone in the round. Okoroji is controlling an arm, preventing Ngannou from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Okoroji has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ngannou is working away from the top position though. Ngannou controlling the pace. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Okoroji wants to get back to full guard but Ngannou has passed into side control.  That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Okoroji tries to buck Ngannou off but Ngannou is having none of it. Ngannou gets to mount! Okoroji was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Score +2 for reaching mount: Okoroji (0) vs (17) Ngannou Ngannou content just to control the position here. Okoroji tries to hold on but Ngannou postures up.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Okoroji is desperately trying to improve his position but Ngannou has a good base and remains in mount. Ngannou controlling the position easily from mount. Okoroji tries to hold on but Ngannou pushes him away. Okoroji keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Ngannou takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Okoroji is trying desperately to improve position. Ngannou controlling the pace for now. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Okoroji is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that's the end of the fight! Ngannou wins on points by 17 to 0. During a confident post fight interview, Francisco Ngannou thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him. |
