This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Joe Biden! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 5 losses; Kazuma Kiryu! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Frank Dennis.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Biden tries for a takedown but Kiryu sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Biden closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kiryu circles away. Kiryu tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Kiryu fails with a takedown attempt. Kiryu dives in for a single leg takedown but Biden sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Kiryu shoots in looking for a takedown. Biden tries to sprawl out of it but Kiryu keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Biden manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Joe Biden has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kazuma Kiryu. Kiryu has a takedown stuffed. Biden shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kiryu pinned against the cage. Kiryu gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Kiryu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Biden as he jumps to the side. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kiryu shoots in for a double leg but Biden sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Kiryu goes for a double leg but Biden avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Biden continues to drive forward. Biden shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kiryu but Kiryu pushes him off and we're back to square one. Biden darts in looking for a takedown but Kiryu gets double underhooks and turns Biden into the cage. Kiryu changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Biden fights it off and pushes away nicely.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Biden shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kiryu but Kiryu pushes him off and we're back to square one. Biden shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kiryu as he avoids it easily. No luck with that takedown attempt from Biden. Biden fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Biden. Kiryu shoots for a double leg takedown but Biden sprawls well. He's pushed Kiryu's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Biden darts in looking for a takedown but Kiryu gets double underhooks and turns Biden into the cage.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Biden is really struggling to control Kiryu but he's trying to hold on to the position. Biden has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Biden might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Biden wants to control from the top but Kiryu keeps moving. Biden stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kiryu swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kiryu working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Biden doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Biden manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Biden has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Kiryu to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Biden is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Kiryu pulls down on the head and he's put Biden to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Kazuma Kiryu! A relieved looking Kazuma Kiryu thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
