This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 4 losses; Nedser Kiely! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 9 losses; Ben Lauzon! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Chad Campbell and Franklyn Lucas.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Kiely clinches up against the cage. Lauzon goes for a takedown attempt but Kiely pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Lauzon tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kiely defends well and Lauzon ends up having to push Kiely into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Kiely seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Kiely closes the distance and pushes Lauzon back into the cage. Lauzon has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Kiely after a bit of a struggle. Nedser Kiely has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Lauzon.
Kiely has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Lauzon clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! We've been hearing good reports from Kiely's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Kiely sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Lauzon prevents Kiely from improving his position. Lauzon uses his free foot to push down on Kiely's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kiely. Score +3 for passing guard: Kiely (8) vs (14) Lauzon My spies in Grapple inform me that Lauzon has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Lauzon wants to control the pace but Kiely is squirming around nicely.
