In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 8 losses; Striped Marlin! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 4 losses; Donner Keil!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Anthony Taglia and Steve Montenegro.


Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious?
Marlin with a poor takedown

and Keil holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Keil pulls guard effortlessly.

Keil has an active guard here but Marlin has managed to pass into half guard.

Keil looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Marlin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Keil doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Marlin.
Keil tries to roll over but Marlin keeps him under control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marlin keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Marlin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Keil is just riding it out for now. Marlin eventually gives up the hold.
Marlin is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Keil!

Keil is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Keil bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Keil wants to pass the guard but Marlin is keeping the position.
Marlin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Keil is looking for a sweep. Marlin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Marlin in particular looking to stall.

Keil wants to improve his position but Marlin is controlling well.
Keil has a hand on Marlin's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Marlin takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Keil keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Marlin manages to capitalize on a mistake by Keil to take his back!

Keil breaks Marlin's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Marlin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Keil defends well.
Marlin has his hands on Keil's head, controlling the position.
Keil looking to pass the guard.

Keil stands and throws Marlin's legs to the side, diving into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Keil tries to advance to mount but Marlin denies him.
Marlin manages to get back to half guard.
Marlin trying to control from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Keil is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Marlin wants to control but Keil is keeping busy.
Keil is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Marlin!

Marlin slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Keil looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Marlin works his way to full guard. Good work.

Keil got a little sloppy there for a moment and Marlin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Keil has managed to get both his arms back between Marlin's legs - danger averted.
Keil stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marlin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Marlin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Keil is looking to advance position but Marlin has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Marlin is working for a guillotine from mount but Keil frees his head quite easily.

Keil tries to improve his position but Marlin has taken his back! Marlin has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Keil tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Marlin pushes Keil away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Striped Marlin!
