Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Isiah Monroe (ranked 1372 p4p, 2071 weight class) and Joao Gabriel (ranked 169 p4p, 240 weight class). Gabriel has chosen Circo das Galinhas as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Gabriel!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monroe misses with a left hand
and Gabriel counters with a single leg into guard. Monroe didn't expect that.
Gabriel wants to pass the guard but Monroe is keeping the position.

Gabriel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Monroe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Monroe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Gabriel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Monroe has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gabriel is proving hard to escape from.

Monroe is working to avoid the ground and pound but Gabriel connects with a decent elbow.

Gabriel is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Monroe knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Gabriel misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Monroe fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gabriel sprawls well initially but Monroe persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gabriel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Gabriel drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Monroe manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gabriel has Monroe in his guard.
Monroe has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Gabriel to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Monroe is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Gabriel pulls down on the head and he's put Monroe to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Joao Gabriel!
A relieved looking Joao Gabriel thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
