PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Maxwell Chavez (ranked 3424 p4p, 5385 weight class) and Eazy Wright (ranked 211 p4p, 295 weight class). Wright is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Eazy-Duz-It. Eazy Wright has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maxwell Chavez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eazy Wright!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wright looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Wright closes the distance and clinches.

Wright is fighting off a takedown attempt but Chavez is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Wright to the mat. Wright regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Chavez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wright did well to prevent Chavez getting side control.

Chavez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Wright wants to get back to full guard.
Wright felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Chavez is looking for a kimura but Wright is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Chavez to get the leverage.
Wright is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.

Chavez has hold of Wright's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Wright manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Wright somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Wright has a takedown stuffed.
Chavez is looking for a counter combo.

Chavez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Wright to the mat! Wright manages to get full guard.

Wright manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
I was talking to Chavez's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Chavez turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Wright bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wright lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Chavez dives in and scores a takedown into Wright's guard.

Chavez is working for a kimura here but Wright manages to reverse the position and he's now in Chavez's guard.

Chavez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wright can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
