PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Juan Alro (ranked 2021 p4p, 2988 weight class) and Conner Mclovin (ranked 202 p4p, 304 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Alro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Conner Mclovin!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Sam Margolis and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mclovin fails to land with a series of punches.
Mclovin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Alro defends it nicely.
Nice sprawl there from Alro as Mclovin shoots in.
Alro swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Mclovin takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Alro throws a solid leg kick but Mclovin takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Alro.
Mclovin thuds his right hand into Alro's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Mclovin stalks Alro and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Alro's face. Alro staggers backwards, shaken.

Alro is rocked!

It looks like Juan Alro has been cut.
Mclovin throws a shot to the body.
Oh Alro is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mclovin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Alro is fending him off so far but Mclovin persists. Nope, Alro circles away and we're back to standing.
Alro seems to have got his legs back now.
Juan Alro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Conner Mclovin.

Alro clinches up with Mclovin and pushes him back against the cage.
Mclovin is trying to maintain a safe position but Alro gets an underhook and turns Mclovin into the cage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mclovin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Mclovin shoots in for a takedown but Alro shows good takedown defense.
A little feinted left hand from Alro on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Alro throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mclovin.
Alro lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mclovin circles away quickly and effectively.

Conner Mclovin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mclovin is trying hard to land a takedown here. Alro sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

It looked like Alro was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Mclovin shoots for a double leg takedown but Alro sprawls well. He's pushed Mclovin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Alro looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Alro was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Alro thows a body kick. Mclovin tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Alro looks to land a left hand but Mclovin moved out of range nicely.

And Mclovin tries to counter it with a takedown but Alro pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Mclovin shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alro as he avoids it easily.
Alro throws a good cross that connects.
Mclovin throws a series of punches but Alro avoids them all with ease.
Alro tries to close the distance and clinch but Mclovin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mclovin lands a glancing blow to the side of Alro's head.

Alro tries to kick Mclovin off in order to stand up. Mclovin Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Mclovin connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Alro some visible discomfort.

Alro takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Alro parries the strikes from Mclovin easily there. Mclovin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Alro to escape.
Mclovin postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Mclovin in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Alro parries the strikes from Mclovin easily there. Mclovin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Alro to escape.

Mclovin postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Mclovin tries to score with some ground and pound. Alro controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Mclovin is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Alro knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Mclovin throws a lazy right hand but Alro sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Alro pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mclovin swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Alro.
Alro fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mclovin drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Alro defends it well.
Alro takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Mclovin might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Mclovin's jab looks to have found its range, popping Alro under the eye.
Crunch! Alro slams his shin into Mclovin's torso.
Mclovin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Mclovin jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Alro is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mclovin pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Mclovin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Mclovin is stalling here. Alro is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Mclovin seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Alro has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Mclovin looking to break Alro's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Alro remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Mclovin will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Mclovin lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Juan Alro!
A determined Juan Alro didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
Conner Mclovin spoke after the fight, saying 'Times like these you learn to be gracefull so i gotta do just that'.
