Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ezra Alter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brett Powell!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powell loads up on a big right hand but Alter slips the punch.
Powell scores with a jab.
Powell tries to clinch but Alter moves out of range.
Powell misses with a low kick.
Alter darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Powell fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Alter on the side of the head.
Powell tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Alter was well out of range. Poor timing from Powell.
Alter has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Tran MMA Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Powell jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Alter takes a jab right on the kisser.
Powell moves in looking to clinch but Alter pushes him off.

Alter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Powell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Alter passes Powell's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Alter seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Alter takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Alter drops an elbow to the side of Powell's head.

Alter works his way into side control.

Alter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Powell, who protects the arm well.
Powell told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Alter is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Powell has escaped the position, nice work there.
Alter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Powell keeps working.

Alter landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Alter in side control lands a decent elbow.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Alter is looking to take a break and control but Powell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Alter has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Alter goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Powell has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Alter but great work by Powell.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alter tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Powell wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Powell sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Alter is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Powell working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Alter is looking to reverse the position.

Powell lands an elbow.
Alter manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Alter seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alter wants to take a breather but Powell is having none of it.
Powell tries to roll over but Alter keeps him under control.

Alter tries to pass the half guard into mount. Powell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Alter is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Alter is taking a breather. Powell says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Alter throwing shots but Powell is blocking nicely.
Powell makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Powell.
Alter might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Alter is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Alter scoring with punches to the head and body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Powell throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Alter chips away with some ground and pound.

Powell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ezra Alter dominated that round.
That's time! Alter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Powell looks to throw the jab but Alter is out of range.
Alter closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Powell walks into a left hand.
A punch combination from Powell misses.
Alter tries for a takedown but Powell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Alter shoots in looking for a takedown. Powell tries to sprawl out of it but Alter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Powell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Powell throws a leg kick but Alter checks it.
Powell throws a good cross that connects.
Alter jabs Powell right on the nose. Powell blinks but takes it well.

Alter throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Powell tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Alter is in Powell's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alter wants to control from the top but Powell keeps moving.
Alter throws an elbow that misses. Powell uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Alter's guard. Nice move by Powell!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Powell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Powell is fighting to break Alter's control of his arms but Alter is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Alter is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Powell is aware though and is defending well.

Alter looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Alter is trying to keep Powell in close.
Alter is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Powell is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Alter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Powell can do to turn this around?

Alter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Powell manages to get himself to full guard.

Alter wants to control from the top but Powell keeps moving.

Powell has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Alter doesn't defend quickly enough and Powell has managed to lock this one up! Can Alter escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Powell on a fantastic submission victory.
