PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 23416 p4p, 23369 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Wala Sapi was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 52 - 69 - 15, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 64 - 59 - 14, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Mibangon fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sapi follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Sapi fails with the takedown.
Mibangon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sapi sprawls well. Sapi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mibangon gets slowly back to his feet.
Sapi drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Mibangon defends it well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sapi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Mibangon shoots in for a takedown but Sapi shows good takedown defense.
And Sapi responds with a good body kick, but Mibangon manages to step out the way in time.

Sapi unleashes a big counter combination but Mibangon bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Mibangon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mibangon wants it to stay on the feet.

Sapi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mibangon's half guard.
Sapi is controlling the pace.
Sapi is thwarting Mibangon's attempts to control the position.

Sapi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sapi misses with the body kick

and Mibangon counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sapi is trying to control but can't.
Mibangon stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Mibangon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Mibangon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sapi is trying to defend but Mibangon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Sapi keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Sapi moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Sapi wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Sapi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mibangon controls the pace.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Mibangon is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sapi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sapi is defended easily by Mibangon.
Mibangon is looking to counter with a body kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Minatay Mibangon dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Nice sprawl there from Sapi as Mibangon shoots in.
Sapi is trying to counter with his kicks.

Sapi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mibangon's guard.
Mibangon tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sapi stays in close to Mibangon's body and controls the position.
Mibangon wants to hit a sweep here but Sapi passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mibangon there!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sapi throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Sapi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
More stalling from Sapi.
Sapi avoids the attempt from Mibangon to control.
Wala Sapi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
