PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Blankenship (ranked 1801 p4p, 1442 weight class) and Antonio Branco (ranked 136 p4p, 110 weight class). Blankenship comes to the cage accompanied by MXC Most Extreme Challenge. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blankenship looks to land a right hand but Branco moved out of range.
It seemed like Branco was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Blankenship connects with a body shot.
Blankenship dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Branco swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Blankenship looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Branco has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Blankenship tries to land knees in the clinch but Branco avoids the damage to the body.

Branco ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Branco no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Branco doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Branco has momentary wrist control but Blankenship slips an elbow through the middle.

Blankenship has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Blankenship avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Blankenship stands up over Branco, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Blankenship accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Branco has his foot on Blankenship's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Blankenship works his way back into a safe position though.

Branco takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
A big shot lands for Blankenship! That's hurt Branco! Will he recover? Blankenship fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
