PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cody Zamora (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and S S (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zamora kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Medieval Fiddle. S has chosen Atmos Ride the Flow(Nelix rmx) as his entrance music. S S will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Cody Zamora!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, S S!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
S misses with a few strikes there.
Cody Zamora seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
S throws a right and a left that both miss.
S misses with a series of wild punches.
Some wild striking there from S.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Zamora is looking to clinch.
Zamora fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt S.
S's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and S duly obliges.
No joy there for S, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Zamora fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with S, pushing him back against the cage.
S tries for a takedown. No joy.
Zamora lands an elbow inside that S shrugs off.
S is trying to break the clinch but Zamora has him pressed against the cage.

Zamora breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Zamora bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
S looks gassed!

Zamora decides to stand back up. Zamora steps back and let's S get back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
S swats away the attempt to clinch by Zamora.
Zamora tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but S paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Zamora connects with a high kick.
S throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Zamora.
Zamora tries a head kick but it misses.
Zamora rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but S moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Zamora clinches up against the cage.
Zamora gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

S breaks the clinch.
Zamora takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Zamora stuffs the takedown.
Zamora throws a sloppy head kick and S moves out of range easily.
S misses with an uppercut.
Zamora avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Zamora drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Zamora decides to stand back up.
S takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

S tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zamora swivels and escapes.
Cody Zamora has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of S S.

S tries to keep at a distance but Zamora has taken the fight into the clinch.

Zamora's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Zamora instigates a clinch.
S is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Zamora gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Zamora is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Zamora unloads a knee to the mid-section. S lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Zamora has S pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Zamora pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending S tumbling to the mat - Zamora dives into S's guard.

S had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Zamora is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. S Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Zamora's back instead.
Zamora tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Zamora tries to hold on but S postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

S get's back to his feet.

Zamora takes the fight into the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Zamora throws an elbow but misses.
A short uppercut from Zamora.

Zamora breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Zamora tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but S paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Zamora tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Zamora lands a high kick!
Zamora lands a head kick. S smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Zamora gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Zamora pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Zamora prevents S from breaking the clinch.
S can't get the takedown.
Zamora gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from S.
S drops down looking for an ankle pick but Zamora pulls his leg out and moves away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Zamora closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. S did well to prevent Zamora getting side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

S actively working from the bottom here.
Zamora works his way into full mount!
Zamora pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
S is trying to escape the mount.
S regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cody Zamora dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Zamora wants to clinch up but S keeps it at a distance.
S will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Zamora throws an overhand right that lands on S's shoulder, as S tries to avoid the shot.
Cody Zamora is winning the standup battle so far.
Zamora throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Zamora is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in S's half guard.

S looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Zamora pushes past his half guard into mount!
Zamora content just to control the position here.

Zamora is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
S takes a head kick and keeps coming.
S is breathing heavily.

Zamora drives through and clinches with S against the cage.

S has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Zamora clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Zamora trying to control but not successfully.

S is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Zamora knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Zamora for a finish.

Zamora is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake S off. It looks like it's working - S slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Zamora displaying calm under pressure there.
Zamora tries to clinch there but S circles away.

Zamora closes the distance and clinches.
Zamora has S pushed against the cage.
Zamora with an attempt at a knee that misses.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Zamora lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of S backwards.
Zamora scores with a shot to the side of S's head.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Zamora obliges.
Zamora lands an elbow just above S 's eye.
Zamora using the Thai plumb to throw knees but S has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Zamora pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Zamora moves into the clinch.
S wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Zamora decides to pull guard.
Zamora pulls S in close to prevent any damage.

S has gone for a leg lock! Zamora slips out almost immediately though and dives into S's guard.
Zamora is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

S looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Zamora has picked S up and slammed him! S can't keep hold of the triangle and Zamora manages to pass to side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Zamora has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
A head kick misses from Zamora.
S looks to land a combination but Zamora avoids it well.
S takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Zamora forces S back against the cage and clinches.
S wants a takedown.
Zamora lands an elbow inside that S shrugs off.
Zamora leaning his opponent against the cage.

Zamora breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cody Zamora is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Zamora goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Zamora fails in his attempt to clinch.

Zamora misses with a double jab.
S uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Zamora.

Zamora pushes S up against the cage in a clinch.
Zamora throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but S blocks it with crossed arms.
Zamora is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that S can do to turn this around?
S is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Zamora creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Zamora lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Zamora can't get the takedown.
S is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Zamora pulls him back up using the underhooks.

S has hold of one of Zamora's legs. Zamora is fighting the takedown attempt but S gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
S wants to stand and escape but instead Zamora has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

S throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Zamora escapes and throws S's legs to the side, diving into side control!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
S struggling a bit here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cody Zamora dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Zamora rushes S and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Zamora has control of S's left arm, preventing S from doing any damage.
Zamora is looking to stand up but S isn't so interested in that idea.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
S trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Zamora is pulling down on S's head to control his posture.

S drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Zamora manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now S has Zamora in his guard.
Zamora seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Zamora sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed S's guard.

S tries to get to full guard but Zamora has control of the leg.

Zamora is looking for a kimura but S is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Zamora to get the leverage.
Zamora tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
S works his way to full guard. Good work.
Zamora is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

S has an active guard here but Zamora has managed to pass into half guard.
S is trying to get back to full guard.

Zamora stands up and beckons S to join him on the feet.
Zamora tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
S swings for the body but Zamora moves out of range.
Zamora lands a head kick!
Zamora slips a jab from S.

Zamora throws a head kick that misses.

S throws a combination. Zamora tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Zamora shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches S napping and manages to drive through into side control!
S is looking to regain half guard here but Zamora keeps moving and retains side control.

Zamora is trying to get an arm triangle but S is defending well.
S seems a little lost for a moment, as Zamora dominates the positioning.
S sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cody Zamora clearly takes that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


S avoids the head kick by Zamora.
S looks to land a combination but Zamora avoids it well.
A slapping body kick lands there for Zamora.
Zamora tries to clinch there but S circles away.
S fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Zamora is out of range.
Zamora pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Zamora cracks S with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Zamora tries to clinch but S moves out of range.
S with a lazy takedown attempt
and Zamora counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Zamora goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Zamora moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
S fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Zamora rushes S and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Zamora wants the takedown. S is fighting it off but Zamora persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in S's guard against the cage.
Zamora wants to control from the top but S keeps moving.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

S looking for a guillotine here but Zamora defends easily.

S looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Zamora pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. S is keeping the position for now.
S is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

S is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Zamora got a little sloppy there for a moment and S has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Zamora has managed to get both his arms back between S's legs - danger averted.
S working a defensive guard but Zamora passes into half guard.
S tries to get to full guard but Zamora has control of the leg.

S looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Zamora moves into the clinch.
Zamora effectively controlling the action here.
S goes for a takedown attempt but Zamora pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Zamora throws a head kick that S semi-blocks.

Zamora feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
S keeping moving, preventing Zamora from controlling successfully.

S looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Zamora has picked S up and slammed him! S can't keep hold of the triangle and Zamora manages to pass to side control!
S is trying to get back to half guard.

S is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Zamora's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Zamora! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and S has tapped! This one is allllll over!
