PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tomek Pniak (ranked 4549 p4p, 4183 weight class) and Robert Bielak (ranked 433 p4p, 394 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tomek Pniak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robert Bielak!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, John Roberts and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pniak wants to clinch.
Bielak is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Sloppy strikes from Pniak. Those never looked like landing.

Bielak feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Pniak not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Pniak is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bielak is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

It looks like Bielak might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Bielak is working Pniak over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Pniak is in trouble now - Bielak has advanced to mount!
Bielak has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bielak is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Pniak can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bielak lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Pniak keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Bielak stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Pniak fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bielak avoids it really well and circles away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Bielak throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Pniak tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bielak is in Pniak's guard.
Pniak is looking to stand back up but Bielak counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Pniak.

Bielak lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Still in half guard, Bielak seems content to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pniak tries to get to full guard but Bielak has control of the leg.

Pniak is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Bielak scores with a couple of nice shots.
Still in half guard, Bielak seems content to control.
Bielak's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Bielak has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bielak is trying a forearm choke� I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Robert Bielak has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Pniak is letting Bielak control him for a moment.
Pniak is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Bielak is controlling him well.

Bielak decides to stand back up.
Pniak misses with a kick to the body.

Pniak avoids the head kick by Bielak.

Bielak shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Bielak was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Bielak decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Bielak clinches.
Bielak jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pniak walks away with a smile on his face. Bielak gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Tomek Pniak is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Pniak gets caught flat footed, as Bielak shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Pniak working a defensive guard but Bielak passes into half guard.
Bielak uses his free foot to push down on Pniak's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Pniak.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bielak prevents Pniak from getting the reversal.

Bielak has control of Pniak's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Pniak regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Bielak tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Bielak looking for a guillotine from mount but Pniak is having none of it.
Bielak is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Pniak can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Robert Bielak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Pniak breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Pniak looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Pniak tries to pull guard but Bielak holds him up against the cage and eventually Pniak drops back down to his feet.
Pniak is trying to push Bielak away but Bielak has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Bielak gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Pniak regains guard.
Pniak is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Bielak dives into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bielak is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pniak is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Bielak has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Pniak is in a horrible position here. Bielak smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Bielak controlling the pace for now.

Pniak is not a happy chappy� he wants out of there.
Bielak takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Pniak defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Bielak.
Pniak knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bielak on the ground.
Bielak tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Pniak wants to control his opponent's hands but Bielak gets his hands free.

Pniak is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Bielak lands strikes to the head.
Bielak lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Bielak has the hooks in. Pniak is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Bielak lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Pniak hold on?!
Oh Pniak is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Bielak should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
I would not like to be Pniak right now.
Bielak lands shots to the head and Pniak turtles up! The ref has seen enough and stops the fight! This one is over!
