And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 63 wins and 61 losses; Esteban Mondragon! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Suarez enables Mondragon to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Suarez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. It looks like Mondragon might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Suarez tries to escape but Mondragon has the hooks in and won't let him break free. We've been hearing good reports from Suarez's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Suarez looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mondragon puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Well, if Mondragon is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight� I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza� Yum. Can't wait.

Suarez controls Mondragon momentarily but Mondragon frees himself. Suarez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Mondragon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
