Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Kenobi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lucas Tambellini! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jab by Tambellini. Lucas Tambellini seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Tambellini cracks Kenobi with a right hand to the side of the head. Kenobi has a takedown stuffed. Kenobi fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Tambellini closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Tambellini lands in his opponent's guard. Kenobi working for a triangle but Tambellini defends it easily.
Tambellini must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kenobi throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Tambellini tries to stand but Kenobi is controlling from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kenobi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Tambellini really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kenobi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kenobi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kenobi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tambellini manages to get himself to full guard.
Kenobi wants to pass the guard but Tambellini is keeping the position. Kenobi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Kenobi is breathing heavily. Tambellini trying to keep a closed guard but Kenobi is proving a slippery customer.
Kenobi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Kenobi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tambellini swivels though and keeps the full guard. Tambellini wants to sweep but no luck. Tambellini is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kenobi advances to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Tambellini works his way to full guard. Good work. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Kenobi passes Tambellini's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Kenobi seems to be working for a kimura but Tambellini defends the submission attempt. Tambellini is trying to stand back up but Kenobi is controlling him
Kenobi frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Tambellini wants to hold on but Kenobi pushes him away. Tambellini is trying desperately to improve position. Tambellini throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Tambellini is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Kenobi looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Kenobi avoids the attempt from Tambellini to control. Kenobi goes for an armbar but Tambellini turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Tambellini. Kenobi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tambellini doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tambellini manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kenobi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Kenobi is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Tambellini has managed to free his arm - good work. Tambellini is defending against the submission attempts here by Kenobi.
Kenobi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Tambellini misses with some strikes from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kenobi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Tambellini is just riding it out for now. Kenobi eventually gives up the hold. Kenobi moves nicely into side control. Tambellini is trying to get back to half guard. Kenobi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Tambellini is looking for a sweep. Kenobi has hold of Tambellini's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Tambellini tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Kenobi cranks the arm and Tambellini screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Tambellini, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Ben Kenobi!
