PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 23411 p4p, 23351 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 47 - 87 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 65 - 70 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Nada tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kiang swivels and escapes.

Nada gets the takedown into side control.

Nada is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kiang has escaped the position, nice work there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada wants to control but Kiang is keeping him busy.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kiang stuffs the takedown.
Nada shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kiang sprawls well. Kiang wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nada gets slowly back to his feet.
Kiang quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nada fails to land the takedown.
Kiang misses with a kick to the body.

and Nada counters with a solid body kick.

Kiang closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nada to the mat! Nada manages to get full guard.
Kiang is standing up over Nada. Nada looks to escape but Kiang dives into side control.

Kiang looks up at the clock and then as Nada takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Kiang smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Kiang in side control, just content to control the action for now.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Way Nada will probably get the nod.
That's time! Kiang's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Nada tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kiang defends well and Nada ends up having to push Kiang into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Kiang quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Kiang changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nada tries to avoid it but Kiang manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nada to the ground. Nada escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kiang tries to bum rush Nada with a series of wild strikes but Nada uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kiang fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Nada avoids it really well and circles away.
Nada is trying to counter with his kicks.

Yawa Kiang overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nada throws a strike from the bottom but Kiang passes into side control!

Kiang is staying tight to Nada's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Kiang throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Yawa Kiang dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kiang defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Nada.
A quick step to the side and Kiang tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nada shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kiang as he avoids it easily.
Kiang fails with the takedown
and Nada counters with a head kick. That will keep Kiang thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nada postures up in Kiang's guard and throws a big left but Kiang blocks it.
Kiang is trying to keep Nada in close.
Nada not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Nada's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

More stalling from Nada.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kiang tries to sprawl but Nada drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Nada content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Kiang is trying is best to control the position here.
Nada controlling the pace.

And that's the end of the fight!
Way Nada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Nada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
