Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Byrum (ranked 1753 p4p, 1665 weight class) and Billy Jenkins (ranked 182 p4p, 174 weight class). Billy Jenkins will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Byrum! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Billy Jenkins! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Byrum tries for a takedown but Jenkins manages to get underhooks.
Jenkins gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Byrum trying to keep a closed guard but Jenkins is proving a slippery customer.
Byrum wants to control the position but Jenkins says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Byrum trying to control but Jenkins postures up.
Byrum wants to get back to full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jenkins stalling away here and it's allowed Byrum to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Byrum is on top in guard.

 That's one minute gone in the round. Jenkins looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Byrum pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jenkins is keeping the position for now. Byrum preventing the sweep. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Byrum's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Byrum stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jenkins swivels though and keeps the full guard. Byrum works a leg free and moves into half guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Byrum wants to free his trapped foot but Jenkins is holding on for dear life with his legs. Jenkins is concentrating on defense, preventing Byrum from advancing position.
Byrum is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Jenkins has managed to free his arm - good work. Jenkins is controlling Byrum's trapped leg to prevent Byrum from advancing to side control. Jenkins trying to hold on to Byrum's head to control him but Byrum postures up.
Byrum thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jenkins's head.

 The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Jenkins takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Byrum lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Horrible takedown attempt by Jenkins or perhaps it was just good defense by Byrum, which made it look bad.
Jenkins pushes Byrum up against the cage in a clinch. Byrum is working for takedown but Jenkins is calmly controlling the position for now. Byrum wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jenkins dodges an elbow strike from Byrum.
Jenkins lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Jenkins drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Jenkins throws a head punch that misses.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Byrum lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Byrum tries to break free but Jenkins pushes him back against the cage. Byrum misses with some punches.
Jenkins swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Jenkins scores with a nice hook to the head. Byrum is defending well against a takedown attempt. Brandon Byrum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Jenkins. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Jenkins goes for a takedown attempt but Byrum pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Byrum slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Jenkins ducks under a wild hook from Byrum. Byrum misses with a looping left. Byrum looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Byrum throws out a loose jab but Jenkins uses good head movement to avoid it. Byrum misses with a right hand
and Jenkins counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Jenkins. Jenkins blocking some punches.
Byrum pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Brandon Byrum dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Byrum shoots in for a takedown but Jenkins shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Jenkins shoots in but Byrum avoids the takedown attempt easily. Byrum throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Byrum looks to throw the jab but Jenkins is out of range. Byrum lands with an overhand left. Brandon Byrum seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A jab from Byrum misses. Jenkins slips under a jab from Byrum. Jenkins looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it. Jab, jab by Byrum - just one landing.
Byrum gets a takedown into half guard. Byrum wants to take a breather but Jenkins is having none of it.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Jenkins regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Byrum. Jenkins utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Byrum pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jenkins is keeping the position for now. Byrum postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Byrum has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Jenkins keeping full guard, as Byrum tries to pass. Jenkins has control of Byrum's left arm, preventing Byrum from doing any damage.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Jenkins is trying to keep Byrum in close.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Byrum dives in for a single leg takedown but Jenkins sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Byrum pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Byrum misses with a looping left. Byrum misses with a left hand and Jenkins counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Jenkins has closed the distance and engaged Byrum in a clinch.
A short right from Byrum on the inside. Jenkins is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Byrum is defending well. Jenkins letting Byrum take a breather here. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Byrum. Jenkins misses with a punch on the inside.

Jenkins has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Byrum avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Brandon Byrum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Jenkins. Jenkins avoiding damage as Byrum throws knees to the body.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. Jenkins is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Byrum throws a head punch that misses.
Byrum breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jenkins closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Byrum to the mat! Byrum manages to get full guard. Jenkins wants to control from the top but Byrum keeps moving. Byrum is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Byrum is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jenkins is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Byrum has Jenkins pulled in close to control his posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Jenkins wants to pass the guard but Byrum is keeping the position. Jenkins sitting in guard, not really doing much. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Jenkins is fighting to break Byrum's control of his arms but Byrum is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
 The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Byrum throws a looping overhand right but Jenkins ducks down to avoid it. Byrum loads up on a big right hand but Jenkins slips the punch. Byrum is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Jenkins avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Jenkins appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Brandon Byrum dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Jenkins has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Byrum is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Jenkins misses with a short punch on the inside.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Jenkins throws a punch but it's blocked by Byrum. With the fighters up against the cage, Byrum throws an elbow but misses. Jenkins misses with a hook from the clinch. Byrum softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Jenkins scores with a shoulder strike. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Jenkins. Jenkins working aggressively here.

Byrum throws a hook but Jenkins blocks it. Byrum swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Byrum throws a hook to the side of Jenkins's head but Jenkins sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Jenkins moves away from the strike by Byrum. Jenkins fails in his attempt to clinch. Byrum tries to counter with a takedown but Jenkins is quick to defend against it. Byrum misses with an uppercut
and Jenkins counters with an outside leg kick.
Byrum uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Jenkins has time to react. Byrum shoots in looking for a takedown but Jenkins manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Byrum's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. A big left from Byrum misses. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Jenkins defending well as Byrum loads up on a big left hand. And Jenkins responds with a good body kick, but Byrum manages to step out the way in time. Byrum scores with a jab. Byrum waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Jenkins. Byrum rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Jenkins cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Jenkins uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Byrum. Jenkins slips under a jab. Byrum leaves Jenkins with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Byrum moves into range and clinches up with Jenkins. Jenkins misses with the head strike.
Jenkins gets through Byrum's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Byrum missing with knees to the body.
Jenkins lands a right hand that snaps the head of Byrum backwards. Jenkins lands a nice uppercut.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Jenkins changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Byrum fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Byrum tries to clinch but Jenkins is having none of it. Jenkins looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Byrum shoots in and gets a takedown into Jenkins's guard. Byrum wants to control from the top but Jenkins keeps moving. Jenkins has control of Byrum's left arm, preventing Byrum from doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jenkins is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Byrum accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Byrum connects with a couple of short punches. Byrum slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Byrum wants to control but Jenkins is keeping him busy. Jenkins is trying to control Byrum's posture but Byrum avoids it. Jenkins regains half guard there - taking advantage of Byrum's attempt to lay and pray for a moment. Byrum is controlling the pace.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brandon Byrum. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Byrum, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
