Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paul Curwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Riccardo Ramirez!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ramirez missing with a left hand there. Curwin was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Curwin keeps the fight on the outside.
Ramirez fails with an attempt to clinch.

Ramirez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Curwin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Ramirez is pressed up against the cage. Curwin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ramirez down to the mat. Ramirez avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Curwin counters with a one-two to the body.

Ramirez tries to keep at a distance but Curwin has taken the fight into the clinch.

Curwin has Ramirez pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ramirez manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Curwin decides to pull guard.
Ramirez is looking to work some ground and pound but Curwin has wrist control.
Ramirez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ramirez tries to get to full guard but Curwin has control of the leg.

Ramirez is trying to stand up here but Curwin is controlling him well.
Curwin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Curwin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ramirez is just riding it out for now. Curwin eventually gives up the hold.

Ramirez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Curwin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Ramirez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Ramirez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ramirez tries to clinch but Curwin moves away
and Curwin finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Curwin fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ramirez, pushing him back against the cage.
Curwin misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ramirez.
Curwin drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Ramirez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Curwin counters with a leg kick.
Ramirez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Curwin.
Curwin blocks a head kick by Ramirez.
Curwin could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Curwin takes the fight into the clinch.

Curwin decides to pull guard.
Curwin trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Curwin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ramirez's guard.

Curwin connects with a couple of short punches.
Curwin stands up over Ramirez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Curwin with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Curwin's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Curwin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Curwin has hold of Ramirez's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Ramirez seems comfortable defending it but Curwin has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Ramirez is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Ramirez is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Curwin couldn't care less - he's delighted!
