Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Yergin (ranked 2405 p4p, 3736 weight class) and Afonso Mendes (ranked 258 p4p, 374 weight class). Daniel Yergin has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Yergin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Afonso Mendes! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes closes the distance and pushes Yergin back into the cage. Yergin swings wildly with an uppercut but Mendes uses good head movement to avoid it.
Yergin jumps guard and drags Mendes to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Mendes throwing strikes but missing. Mendes slips nicely into half guard. Yergin is looking for a sweep. Mendes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Yergin is working hard here to advance position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Yergin wants to get back to full guard but Mendes has passed into side control. Mendes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mendes passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Yergin!

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Mendes throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Yergin can't escape the position.
Yergin swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Mendes trying to control but he's not successful this time. Yergin suckers Mendes into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Yergin is now in Mendes's guard!
Yergin postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Yergin is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Mendes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Yergin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Yergin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Yergin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Mendes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yergin defends it easily.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Yergin cracks Mendes with a solid left hand. Mendes is trying to control the position but Yergin postures up. Yergin with a couple of shots to the head there. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Yergin's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Mendes keeping moving, preventing Yergin from controlling successfully. Yergin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendes struggling a bit here. Mendes is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Yergin is working Mendes over with some ground and pound from side control.
Yergin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mendes has escaped the position, nice work there. Mendes is looking to regain half guard here but Yergin keeps moving and retains side control. You can see the frustration on Mendes's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Yergin lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Mendes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Yergin wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Mendes struggling a bit here. Mendes is working to avoid the ground and pound but Yergin connects with a decent elbow. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mendes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Yergin defends well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Yergin working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Mendes's head. Yergin is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mendes can do to turn this around? Yergin content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Yergin works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Yergin lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Mendes gets full guard. Yergin landing with the ground and pound. Yergin wants to control from the top but Mendes keeps moving. Mendes wants to sweep here but Yergin controlling him for the moment. Yergin with a nice head shot there. Yergin makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Yergin advances to half guard. Yergin looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Yergin working Mendes over with strikes. Yergin wants to pass to mount but Mendes is defending the position. Yergin trying to control from half guard but Mendes is working away.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Mendes wants to control but Yergin is keeping busy and won't allow it. Mendes might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Yergin haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Daniel Yergin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Yergin seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Mendes is in trouble now - Yergin has advanced to mount! Yergin raining down hammerfists from mount. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Yergin landing shots from mount. Yergin with the ground and pound from mount. Mendes can't escape the position.
Whack. That's a big, big shot from Yergin! Mendes is out cold! This one is all over!
