Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darien Tapia (ranked 3194 p4p, 3498 weight class) and Arjun Harrington (ranked 315 p4p, 338 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Darien Tapia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Arjun Harrington!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Kavanagh and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tapia throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Harrington counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Tapia thinking.
Harrington throws a right and a left that both miss.
A little feinted left hand from Tapia on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Tapia swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Tapia loads up on a big right hand but Harrington slips the punch.
Tapia misses with an uppercut.
Harrington is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
A punch lands to the side of Tapia 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Harrington uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Tapia.
We've been hearing reports that Tapia has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Tapia has taken the fight to the clinch.
Tapia is pressed up against the cage. Harrington has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Tapia down to the mat. Tapia avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Darien Tapia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tapia successfully pulls guard.
Harrington trying to control the position from guard on top but Tapia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Tapia is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Harrington is aware though and is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harrington stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tapia swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Tapia escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Harrington gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Tapia looking to hit a scissor sweep but Harrington is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tapia is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Tapia throws his legs up looking for a submission but Harrington uses it to pass to side control.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Harrington is looking to take a break and control but Tapia is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tapia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Harrington on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tapia tries to buck Harrington off but Harrington is having none of it.

That was a close round but I would say that Darien Tapia will probably get the nod.

Tapia's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Harrington moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Tapia has worked his arm free - good work by Tapia!
Tapia is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Harrington has just dragged him back down to the mat.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Harrington working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Tapia tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Harrington wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tapia regains half guard.
Tapia is staying active underneath Harrington, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Harrington jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Tapia walks away with a smile on his face. Harrington gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tapia stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Harrington has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Tapia manages to get his head free but now Harrington has transitioned to an armbar! Tapia grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Harrington! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
