The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Mondragon shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Oh as he avoids it easily. Mondragon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Mondragon shoots for a takedown but Oh saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Esteban Mondragon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mondragon shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mondragon was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Oh tries to roll over but Mondragon keeps him under control. Mondragon is looking to pass Oh's guard but actually Oh recovers to full guard. Oh told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Oh is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Oh tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mondragon wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Oh wants to control but Mondragon postures up. Mondragon wants to control but Oh is keeping him busy. Oh is trying to improve his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Oh tries to get back to half guard but can't. Oh struggling a bit here. Oh tries to buck Mondragon off but Mondragon is having none of it. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Mondragon wants to control but Oh is keeping him busy. Mondragon working away. Oh regains half guard. Mondragon moves into full mount!  That's eight minutes gone in the round. Oh is trying desperately to improve position. Oh is trying to reverse the position but instead Mondragon has taken his back - oops! Score +3 for taking back: Mondragon (13) vs (0) Oh Mondragon biding his time, controlling Oh. Oh trying to control the action but Mondragon just sinks the hooks in.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Oh is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Mondragon.

 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Oh just trying to survive but Mondragon is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Mondragon's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Oh trying to control the position but Mondragon manages to sink in the hooks. Mondragon controlling well, preventing Oh from escaping the position.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Oh trying to control but not successfully. Oh rolls, trying to escape but Mondragon keeps control of the position.
Mondragon has good solid back control here. Oh looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Oh is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. A bit of a pause in the action here. Mondragon controlling the positon. Mondragon gets his hands free as Oh looks to control. Mondragon has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Oh's body.

 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Mondragon is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Mondragon tries to get the hooks in deep but Oh pushed the leg off. Oh is trying to break free.

And that's the end of the fight! Mondragon takes the fight on points by 13 to 0. After winning the bout, Esteban Mondragon thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. |
