Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hazel Nut!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lanion Mauricio!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Josh West and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nut tries to clinch there but Mauricio circles away.
Nut moves away from the strike by Mauricio.
Nut drives through with a takedown into guard.
Nut wants to control from the top but Mauricio keeps moving.
Mauricio is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
My spies in KO MMA inform me that Mauricio has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Mauricio wants to free his trapped foot but Nut is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Mauricio is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Nut is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mauricio passes to side control.
Nut tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mauricio advances to full mount.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Mauricio forces the positional change into back control.
Nut is trying to get back to his feet but Mauricio has full control of the position and if anything, Nut has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Mauricio working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Nut is doing well to defend. Mauricio seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Nut is forced to tap and this one is over!
