Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ray Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mat Shelton!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Eddie Farnsworth and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson tries to clinch but Shelton moves out of range.
Jackson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shelton swivels and escapes.

Jackson gets caught flat footed, as Shelton shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Jackson could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jackson is breathing heavily.
Jackson keeping full guard, as Shelton tries to pass.
Shelton sitting in guard, not really doing much.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shelton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Shelton controlling from the top position.
Shelton has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jackson looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Shelton has picked Jackson up and slammed him! Jackson can't keep hold of the triangle and Shelton manages to pass to side control!

Shelton decides to stand back up. Shelton steps back and let's Jackson get back to his feet.

Shelton feints and as Jackson raises his hands in defense, Shelton changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jackson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jackson tries to get out of the position.
Shelton trying to control but Jackson is working from the bottom.
Jackson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shelton on the ground.

Shelton's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Jackson is looking to sweep but instead, Shelton has passed into half guard.
Shelton trying to control the action but Jackson is working from the bottom.
Jackson is trying to control but Shelton passes into side control!

Shelton has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Shelton drives through with a takedown into guard.

Shelton is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Shelton instigates a clinch.

Shelton breaks from the clinch.
Shelton tries to bum rush Jackson with a series of wild strikes but Jackson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
An inside leg kick lands from Shelton.
Shelton misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jackson fails with the takedown

and Shelton counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jackson's guard now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shelton drops back looking for a leg! Jackson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jackson manages to kick Shelton off! Shelton jumps back into Jackson's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Shelton gets to his feet - Jackson follows without any prompting.
Jackson misses with a takedown

and Shelton counters with a shoot takedown. Jackson fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ray Jackson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jackson keeping moving, preventing Shelton from controlling successfully.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shelton is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mat Shelton dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Shelton looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Shelton slips a jab and a cross from Jackson.

Shelton clinches with his opponent.

Shelton tightens his grip and picks Jackson up, before dumping him to the ground. Jackson manages to land in guard.
Shelton is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Jackson looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Shelton passes into half guard.

Jackson is defending against the submission attempts here by Shelton.
Jackson is trying to maintain the position but Shelton is very close to passing his half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Shelton decides to stand up.

Shelton closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shelton lands in his opponent's guard.
Jackson wants to control but Shelton passes easily into half guard.
Shelton works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jackson is looking to get to half guard.
Jackson is squirming around, avoiding Shelton's attempts to control the action.
Jackson has given up his back. Will we see Shelton going for some submissions?
Jackson trying to control the hands but Shelton won't let him.
Shelton has good solid back control here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shelton lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Shelton lands punches and elbows.
Jackson tries to escape but Shelton has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Shelton tries to get the hooks in deep but Jackson pushed the leg off.

Shelton is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Jackson knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Jackson for a finish.
Shelton is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jackson holding both Shelton 's hands and preventing any damage.

Shelton looking to break Jackson's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Jackson remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Shelton will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Jackson tries to break free.
Shelton lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Shelton is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Jackson has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Shelton has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Jackson taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Shelton doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mat Shelton!
