PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Willie Dixon (ranked 776 p4p, 482 weight class) and Jean Paul Savette (ranked 70 p4p, 42 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 1, fighting out of London, Willie Dixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jean Paul Savette!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savette misses with a straight right.
Savette closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Savette missing with a left hand there. Dixon was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A little feinted left hand from Dixon on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

It looked like Dixon was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Savette.
Savette looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Savette throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dixon.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dixon steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Savette.
Dixon changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Savette dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Dixon. That did some damage!

Dixon looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
The fighters circle momentarily. Savette darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Savette throws a hook but Dixon avoids it easily.
Savette comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Savette uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Dixon cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Savette throws an overhand right that lands on Dixon's shoulder, as Dixon tries to avoid the shot.
Dixon appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Savette misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Dixon counters with a stiff right hand.

Savette throws a leg kick but Dixon sees it coming and moves out of range.
Dixon swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Savette lands with a hook. Dixon tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Savette feints and then cracks Dixon's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Dixon down.

Jean Paul Savette seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Dixon might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.

Savette fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Dixon looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Savette sizes up Dixon with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Dixon moves out of range as Savette strikes.

Savette throws a looping overhand right but Dixon ducks down to avoid it.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dixon takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

and Dixon holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Dixon turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Dixon manages to end up in side control.

Savette throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

A quick step to the side and Dixon tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Jean Paul Savette showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Dixon's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Savette connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Dixon scrambles back to his feet.
