PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trevon Mcdowell (ranked 1248 p4p, 2035 weight class) and Mickey McKinley (ranked 149 p4p, 224 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trevon Mcdowell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mickey McKinley!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Sano and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

It looks like Trevon Mcdowell has been cut.
McKinley has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Mcdowell shoots for a takedown but McKinley saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McKinley defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mcdowell.
It seemed like McKinley was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Mcdowell displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as McKinley throws out the jab.
Mcdowell has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from McKinley finds it's way round the side to connect with Mcdowell's head.
McKinley does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Mcdowell closes the distance and clinches up with McKinley, looking for a takedown. Mcdowell pushes McKinley against the cage but McKinley circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trevon Mcdowell. That's going to take a lot out of him.

McKinley drops Mcdowell with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Mcdowell looks back up at him and smiles so McKinley waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McKinley lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
McKinley slaps away a takedown attempt from Mcdowell, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mcdowell misses with a takedown

and McKinley counters with a nice right hand that sends Mcdowell toppling to the canvas! Mcdowell scrambles and gets back to his feet - can McKinley finish him?!

Mcdowell shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and McKinley rattles Mcdowell with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Mcdowell tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. McKinley dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Mcdowell stiff and motionless on the mat!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Mickey McKinley!
